I don't like to perform Out of this World as an individual effect. I like to take a regular ole deck that I keep in my left pocket of my coat or jacket, pull it out and do a few effects with it. While I'm doing a few allowing the spectator to shuffle on some and me on others. I spread them to show them its a regular real deck and invite them to check it out after I've done 2-4 effects. In the same pocket I keep a same colored deck, the Out of this World deck. I keep the Out of this World deck closest to my body always. After I put the regular deck back in its box and place it in my left jacket pocket I switch to coin magic or other pocket magic. When I'm finally ready to wrap up I go back to my left pocket and pull out the Out of this World deck, and perform it. So far this has worked out really well for me.
What do you think about this? Or what are some of the ways you perform this particular effect? |

Sounds like you've got it figured out. I can't think of any way I'd change what you're doing. Keep it up!

Personally, I like doing it from a shuffled deck. Martin Nash has a very sneaky way of getting the deck into black/red separation right under the spec's noses (the Segregation Shuffle). Harry Lorayne also has a method called "The Great Divide" that accomplishes the same thing. After the deck is separated out, if you can do a faro, you can then get the deck into the proper condition to do Tamariz's "Neither Blind Nor Silly" (AKA "TNT" in Card College Light). At the end of that effect, the deck will again be in separated condition, even after two spectators have shuffled the heck out of the cards. No one will ever suspect a set-up after that sequence. A deck switch is a fine way to get ready for OOTW, but imagine how much stronger it would be with a regular deck that the specs shuffle themselves!

Hmm I've not heard of them, but I did some research and see that Harry has a book out. I'm probably gonna end up picking it up.

Harry Lorayne has A book out? A book? My goodness, where have you been? He's written more books that you can count! And even though he's the world's greatest memory exponent, I doubt if even he remember how many.
Sorry, rickyhmltn, I don't mean to belittle you. You're probably a relative newcomer to magic. But Harry is one of the most prolific authors in the history of magic. (And memory.) He's up there with Annemann, Max Maven, and Walter Gibson! Dennis Loomis

Dennis, why so modest... By the way Dennis has (see his web site) a marvelous handling for OOTW using the memorized deck. It was my starting point for my personal handling. As I love to keep a deck of cards in play not using the stack but maintaining the stack (or to complete the stack while doing other "tricks") and then later on using the stack to create something really "impossible", it is great to finish a set with OOTW using the apparently random order of a used deck already in play some time (often I perform before OOTW Simon Aronson's fabulous "Twice as Hard"). Jan,
Thanks for your kind words. I agree entirely which is why I can up with my handling for OOTW done with a mem-deck. Twice as Hard would certainly work well as the lead in effect to OOTW. Here's the link to my site for those that may want to read about my version: http://www.loomismagic.com Once you're on the site, look at the links across the top of the front page and click on the memorized deck section. Scroll down a way and you'll see the list of articles. The article on OOTW (I call my version Out of my Mind) is article number 21. Best to all... I can't resist saying how great it is to have a new administration and a new President in charge. Dennis Loomis

I set up the black/red seperation using the Slop Shuffle as a trick before doing OOTW.
