Imagine you are working on a construction site at an Asylum. You are in one of the cells tearing down a wall when you notice an odd brick on the adjacent wall. You go over and notice the bricks cement has eroded away and the brick is loose, you pull the brick out and within the space of the wall you see an assortment of objects. These objects have been gathered by a clepto maniac inmate fondly nicknamed 'The Magpie'...
My question to you guys is what has she collected whilst in the Asylum??? I'm trying to justify a hotel tap bell. I have one of the old one, not sure what they're called or when they were invented, any idea? Thanks guys...

Silvertongue,
they are called front desk service bells. Beautiful antique brassones may be foubd at Brass bells, com, reasonably priced. I"m noy sure when or by whom they were invented, but a google search may reveal that to you. A most interesting object for Magpie to have stashed. I believe ther are gommicked versions which act as spirit bells. Kotah |

A small but very sharp batarang, a pin inscribed "I believe in Harvey Dent", a silver double face coin with one face damaged, some kind of metal cat claw, tiny bells from a harlequin costume, an umbrella with yellow ducks, ...
The Bell is inscribed Gotham City Grand Hotel. |

Or a pocket watch inscribed ""Oh dear! Oh dear! I shall be too late!", a small vial annoted "drink me" and a piece of cake with "eat me", piece of a huge mushroom, empty oysters shells, a deck of playing cards (whatever you do the Queen of Hearts is always going back to the top), a small piggy, a very stiff pink flamenco, a huge hat (with 10/6 label), a lot of tea cups, momerats...

(Kurotsuke) A key or two.(The key, unused, to the door of her cell would certainly prove insanity) A prescription pad. A toupee. Several name badges. A nurses cap. a mini can of breath spray. eight dollars and seventy-two cents in change.

The walls of the cell are inscribed "Do you read Sutter Cane?" , in the space you find a map of Hobb's End, car keys, a book "In the Mouth of Madness", photo of a madman covered with crosses, a drawing of a huge octopus... |

The remains of what seems to have been a cloth bag.
Three metal cups, each with "PL" inscribed in script. Four spheres of some strange porous, friable material that crumble when touched. A black stick with white ends. Three baby chicken skeletons.

A couple pencil stubs, many small paper medicine cups filled with dead beetles or moth wings, bundle of rags, broken older glass syringe, an odd assortment of dentures. Toenail clippings too. Them little med cups are versatile, hold lots of good stuff.

Q: Why did she take a hotel tap bell?
A: Because she was a DING-bat. A jokeress with a PEAL. A real BELL of the wall. You should see her knockers! |

Aaaahahahahaha funny! Dead or Alive???
Thanks guys some great ideas. The service bell won't work for what I'm looking for but you guys have given me a few more ideas. I love the key to her own cell idea Magus thanks... This infact is the infamous Colney Hatch, Maggie Magpie was admitted 1911 and died there in 1939. I love the Alice in Wonderland too. So much to think about... Thanks

Or admitted in 1935 and died 1939...
-------------------------------------------- See, The Magpie was first thought a thief until she made it quiet clear that she couldn't stop doing it. Thought by Maggie herself to be some sort of evil curse or magic spell, at the age of 13, she was quiet quickly and quietly rushed off to the Hatch and never seen or spoken of again... This curse it turns out twas a Gift. Maggie could hold an object and sense everything about it... Its past, present and future... As she held the object... images... sounds... smells... and tastes - even emotions would overwhelm her whole being... --------------------------------------------- Her compulsion, so overwhelming and indescribable was not to steal but to find out what the flick was going on...
