HN Review 1: Dynamic Mysteries - Richard Osterlind

AD:
Richard Osterlind unlocks the secrets of this high-impact stunners! A top professional, a man who earns a six figure income performing magic and mentalism, Richard's turbo charged material takes him across the world performing for stellar fees which most magicians dream about. As the inventor of mind-boggling mysteries, his creations have a rock solid reputation as the
best of the best! Dynamic Mysteries is material straight from Richard's
repertoire, astonishing audiences and producing powerful and practical effects!
In this book, you'll learn 17 of his mind boggling dynamic effects!

This 99 page book teaches you in great detail Richard's close-up and stage miracles. A great gift idea for magicians, this book is perfect for the Close-Up, Stand-Up, Stage, Table-To-Table, Trade Show, Restaurant, Radio and Television, and Corporate magicians alike.

REVIEW:

What if a spectator chooses the word "Modesty" in an Osterlind booktest routine?

Anyway, I bought the book for the effect "Miracle Thought Projection", and I am pleased with it - good enough for me. You will unfortunately need real cards, but it is a great effect (especially if you already enjoy the mental card projections of Docc Hilford, Derren Brown, Kenton Knepper, David Greene etc.)

The book includes shameless plugs to Jeff Busby's products, along with methods and thoughts for Ring Flight, ESP card tricks, his own Apex Stainless Steel Blindfold, John Cornelius' gimmicked calculator (can't remember its name right now), the clip line prediction etc

Overall evaluation: good book

I would give it much higher rating than a good book.
I found almost each routine there a "worker" (yeah I know you guys hate this word already).
It is one of the best books I own in magic and mentalism (I own over 100).

It gets an 8.5 out of 10 on my scale.

Nir,

Don't know the meaning of "worker" - is a pocket trick a "worker"? There are too many compromises in this book - compare a direct mind reading effect with numbers such as Striving's "Sort of Numerology" with the Osterlind plot: gimmicked calculator, pieces of paper, misreading, one ahead etc etc

David's right... Dynamic Mysteries is out of print and it's very difficult to find copies, new or used, for sale. Osterlind's presentation/explanantion of "Signed Torn and Restored Newspaper" on his video is simply outstanding... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

DaveS/Sven/David,

Jeff Busby unfortunately suffered serious health problems. However, I understand he is now able to manage his magic shop again with the help of his wife – perhaps you could try to contact them directly to obtain a copy of DM.

Best,

Dynamic Mysteries arrived yesterday... there are so many excellent, beautifully thought out routines, it's hard to know where to begin! For example, "Viewed ESP Prediction" and "Miracle Thought Projection" are jaw dropping effects. And Richard's generosity -- so evident in his recent DVD series -- sharing many valuable presentation tips and ideas based on his vast experience with real world audiences, adds a dimension often lacking in mentalism texts (and magic books in general).

Simply put, a magnificent book! Thanks Richard! Smile Smile Smile

Harvey;
Classifying Dynamic Mysteries as just "good" is actually more or less an insult.

Even though the book was written a few years ago, it is of the same genuine Osterlind standard, class and quality as we all know from all his other releases

Hi Sven,

In my ratings, “good” means “good”…. And I don’t have too many good books (among the hundreds on my shelves).

As I mentioned to Nir Dahan last year, I value uncluttered approaches to mentalism: when a mentalist brings out a prop, he lowers his rating (I read that somewhere…) The only item I use from DM is a version of Miracle Thought Projection – done without cards of course.

Enjoy your book,

H.

Members,

Just for the record, Dynamic Mysteries was taken from a number of lecture notes I published through the years. Some of the "shameless plugging" and "immodesty" were NOT written by me, but rather Jeff Busby. I am no longer affliated with him in any way and he has no right to continue to publish this book. If he is continuing to publish and sell the book, he is doing so illegally and is paying me no royalties. In addition, in the past he has refused to sell to any dealer that would, in turn, sell it to me in order to allow me to sell MY OWN BOOK! It is a preposterous situation.

It really doesn't matter as the material in Dynamic Mysteries will be offered in a new updated form in the near future.

Well, I'm disappointed. I wanted the material to myself and to the others who managed to get a hold of a copy in the past. some things are best left rare (like goldstein's color series). Gems that will be treasured by those who own it. to make it widely available to the public again is kind of a let down. as you can tell I'm a selfish sod. haha Smile

I'be just an old copy of Richard Osterlind's Dynamic Mysteries.

What a lovely book.

I particularly feel drawn to his, 'Viewed ESP Prediction'. Does any one like it ?
