HN Review 4: Compact Key - Marvoyant
AD: The performer claims to have a new security device, A Compact Key. He then removes the head of the key from its stem separating it into two pieces. The pieces are then instantly restored into the original key. The key can then be handed out for inspection. The Compact Key is a twenty-second routine designed for any impromptu situation. The key can be examined before and after the routine. Comes complete with all necessary props and photo-illustrated instructions. REVIEW: Dear Magical Friends, this is THE WINNER!! I never counted the number of items/books/videos I own, but I spent over 20 years purchasing magical items and this key really stands out like a flash paper rose burning in the night. I now carefully avoid anything with the name of Meir Yedid written on it. Overall rating: buy it and keep it in full view all the time - and repeat to yourself "I am a sucker" H.

Yes, I have this item and I know what you mean. Maybe they put it out in the market before the trick was completed . This is THE worst item I have ever bought, After "ALIDA" that is . Two major thing are wrong here, This not a "Routine" And it does not last for 20 seconds. Maybe it took 20 seconds to think out a trick like this. |

I couldn't have put it better myself! Excellent review. Compact Krap more like.
Frank. Hey, Brian, you have this too? I am sorry.

Why is it so bad?
Saying that it is crap doesn´t help people to know if it is good or not, since we have our own opinions about what we bought. Regards |

...er, ok. Here goes. What you get is a regular Yale-type key and, wait for it, a duplicate which has been hacksawed through. And some instructions. Fine if you're doing an RNIB gig...
Utter, utter garbage. It's doubtful wheather the instructions alone would sell, let alone insulting people by charging them for this tat. If you saw it in a book you would turn the page. Maybe people are expecting something 'mechanical'? Does that help you? Frank.

I just went to FANTASMA Magic Shop yesterday (June 9, 2007) and I saw Magick perform this effect with a nice routine and patter about how you can keep each piece in a different pocket in case you get robbed (pick-pocketed), the thief would only get 1 piece of the key to your house. This is why he keeps his house key in 2 pieces.
He did the routine and had great showmanship. Now I have to get this small little gem. I know this thread has been "collecting dust" over the past few years, but felt it might be good to resurrect it and get some other people's more recent thoughts. Here is the link to the COMPACT KEY that Meir Yedid has put out: http://mymagic.com/marvoyan.htm

I'm a little confused about the blogs on this trick. Looks like a 50/50 split here. I plan on going right to Fantasma in NYC in person and checking it out when I vacation there in early July. David Roth was working there last summer, a real gentleman and magician mentor.
"There's no limit to what one man can accomplish, as long as he's willing to let someone else have the credit." (These words were inscribed on a small brass plaque which sat on President Ronald Reagan's desk in the White House during his second term.)

Apparently this little "20 second" trick is NOT a big favorite of many magicians and is usually found in their junk drawer due to a "waste of money".
Now's your chance to get rid of it. Here is the item's description: Please PM me if you are willing to sell me yours, but in a fairly new and working condition and complete with instructions & ALL necessary props.

I think this is good. Granted the key is pretty crap, but I made my own gimmick with my house key, made the routine use different moves and adapted the gimmick a little so that you can show the key on a key ring before and after the move. A winner if you work out the right routine.
