Mr, Carpenter.
Been doing magic for a while but only repeating others effects. Now, I'm working on my first own effect and have a problem finding a good presentation. When trying out diffrent presentations on friends I get everything from "WOW" to "OK". What makes an effect great? or what in a presentation can lift an effect? Hope you understand my question, my english ain´t that good. Petter. |

You need to give Jack time.
It hasn't been that long since you posted, and he might not have read it yet. John |

No, not at all!
What makes an effect great? A great trick provides the greatest amount of entertainment pleasure for your audience and also makes you happy to perform it. You've got to love it too. It should also be as practical as possible. Good angles, minimum equipment. -Jack |

Thank you. Sorry if I rushed you :-(. I think I just got panic sens it is your last special guest day.....
I got a pretty sleight I'm trying to build my trick around.... but the hard part is how to present it. When you creat effects do you use trail and error for the presentation or how do you come up with the final product? |

Trial and Error is most of it! Believe me! Often you'll start with a presentational idea, but find out later when working for laymen, that a whole different approach works much better!
I would say it's the audiences that ultimately create your presentations, that's why the guys who work the most have the best presentations. They pick up things, learn things, accidents happen that they incorporate, jokes pop up, all by performing. Yes, you're on the right track- have a good basic presentation, keep it simple when you start working the routine for laymen, and let them teach you the necessary presentation. Over time, you will own the trick, with your own bits of business, lines, etc. That's the only real way to do it. |
