For those of us who own a few effects involving the production of a rabbit, does anyone know of any company that manufacturers a fake, but realistic looking rabbit?
For years, I have seen spring rabbits for sale that would not fool anyone from any distance. Is anyone out there aware of whether any manufacturer has ever improved on this idea? Perhaps a small, realistic looking rabbit with a battery operated mechanism to make its nose twitch periodically would certainly do the trick for those who would like to produce a rabbit, but who have neither the time nor the ability to care for a pet. Can anyone be of assistance here? Perhaps this is the type of product that someone creative like Steve Axtell should consider making. Thanks!

Heya Peter...

Boy they let anyone post here...

I have never seen a good realistic fake rabbit. If you find some let me know because I'm tired of cleaning 3 rabbit cages...

The most realistic fake rabbits I've seen are not spring animals, but stuffed dolls from the toy stores. If you remove the stuffing and put your hand inside like a hand puppet, you can make it move realistically. The best movements are very small, trembling movements as if the rabbit is very shy and frightened, which explains why you hold it in your hands and pet it, etc. Then put it away and out of sight. Afterwards, you will know how realistic it was by the number of kids who come up and want to pet your rabbit. The answer is always "He's asleep and I don't want to disturb him."

Haywire: any good news for me, egg-wise?

Yea...stuffed toys would probably do the trick. Besides... if you're far away enough, no one would notice. Us dove guys always get asked if your doves are real. Most of the time we know they are... Same goes with ur stuffed rabbit. If you could get hold of a preseved rabbit carcass, I don't knw wat they're called, the type you find in museaums...mayb tat'll be better...

just throwin you ideas

Hahaha yeah a stuffed dead rabbit would make a nice production item for my next birthday party show...

Now little jimmy, don't pet the rabbit too hard, or its stuffing may come out.

And just ignore the bloody mouth and marble eyes, harry the rabbit is fine.

Thanks for the advice guys. I will look around and see what I can find. If I see a really good fake rabbit, I'll post about it here. Great photo with the doves Steven!

Thanks Dynamike. I think you found the best ones out there. I have searched the internet since first posting this request and http://www.wildlifetreasures.com seems to have the most realistic looking rabbits. This is probably because they all have real rabbit fur. Thanks for your efforts.

A LONG time ago I purchased a set of nesting rabbits.

One rabbit nests inside of the other rabbit.

You can do splitting a hare/hair gag with them.

Dynamike,

Please do post to let everyone know what you think of the wildlifetreasures rabbit when you get it. If you do like it, then I will probably order one.

Thanks.

I will be most happy to let all of you know once it arrives at my door.

I just thought about something. The ones who will hate this is PETA. Especially if they know the animals are fake with real fur.

I received my order yesterday. It took a litter longer to arrive than I expected, no big thing. It looks exactly the same way it does on the photos. It is also true to it's size. There is nothing to fear about because you will receive exactly as what was descrbied.

Hi Dynamite, are these with a soft stuffing inside or are they with a fiberglass/wood body?
If they are hard,I don't think you can manipulate it like a puppet.

They are hard and solid. They are also light weight. I think they are hollow inside. Or it could have styrofoam inside. There is a felt material glued to the bottom of the whole rabbit.

I have used one from Toys-R-Us.

If you want to see a picture see this months Linking Ring, page 31.

Just make some small movements and it enhances the effect that it is real. Will everyone think it is real, probably not, but I got a lot of oohs and ahhs at the banquet.

Great to use when the environment does not allow a real rabbit as was the case at this banquet.

By the way that production as seen is the MagicSax Rabbit bag.

I bought a few of the wildlifetreasures ones. For most it will not be practical for use or modding.
First it is a hard resin shell. It appears to be hollow but no give or flex.
It appears the fur is glued to the form not sewn so it is unlikely it could be skineed.

They are all hand assembled so will vary. I found the wiskers on all 5 of the styles I bought fell off. They are tack glued on and were clumped so when I tried to fix them they just fell off.

You need to take a close look at some of the body styles.

Some have a curve to the body some have paws up. It would a a shame to use this as a gag or toy.

I thought some looked smaller in person than the photos and I think they look better in photos than live.

The 9x15 rabbit is sitting correctly but the one I got, I thought the head looked too wide. The body is ok but the face is what sells it. I assume these are made from the same form. But for some reason the one in the photo looked better than the one I received.

The taxidermist can make the body soft so not to look too fake. Look into it. I feel this is your best bet.
