I have trained my wife's Service Dog to both assist me with the presentation of some Effects and actually perform some herself. SHe even throws in some antics of her own depending onthe audience reaction to "that special moment" when something unexpected occurs. the use of Therapy Dogs and Assistance Dog is on the rise, so give some thought as to using one in your act -- even spontaneously if there is one at a Children's Hospital. I looked on the "Polly" forum but that is only about using animals as props. I hope others here have expereince with using canines (and others) as assistants in acts.

I have a golden retriever Duke. I have used him with little trick especially at younger birthday events. Im glad there is another dog owner who loves their dog as much as I do.

I use a Shih Tzu in my act & he often is the Star of the show, LOL. I still have people asking me about my 1st Dog, Dante would be 16 now. It's funny but they will always rembember his name. I have 3 year old Shih Tzu noe named Thurston & he loves doing the act. I do a Duck to Dog Illusion.
