Almost ready to move over to LA (end of June all being well) and to get help with the legal situation I am looking to work on cruise ships...I don't use livestock, or assistants, and have no big illusions, but can hold a large audience and use a stage. I have been cabareting for 5 years in Tenerife which will hold me in good stead, but would like some advice as to what might better work on stage effects wise. I already have costuming and music edits. Currently I am using Linking Rings, Chop Cup, production items, Egg Bag...
Any advice would be welcome. http://www.jamesjamesmagic.com Vernon |

Vernon,
It is great to hear your move is on it's way. Regarding cruise ship material, what is most important, your routines, getting the audiences involved in the show. People on the ships are there to have a good time. It 's your job to give that to them. I would work your show around you and your audience, the magic tricks are only secondary. I would use magic that is strong, visual for large audiences, easy to carry, and easy to store away. If you have the ability to hold a large audience, you will do fine. Make your act unique. Make sure that your material is fresh, original (a good percentage), and clean. Steve Hart Cape Canaveral, FL USA

Thanks Steve, guess I was just looking for some confirmation that I was at least thinking along the right lines.

There is a lot of information about cruise ship jobs on the following websites:
http://www.proship.com/ http://www.bramson.com/ http://www.cruiseshipentertainment.com/ Also, Fred Becker has written a book on the business of working cruises. It's available at: http://www.fredbecker.com/page19.html Good luck, Jim Snack http://www.success-in-magic.com |

Cheers guys,
Have been away from access to the net for a few weeks, so it's gratifying to still get support on this question. Will definitely keep the site posted with my eventual success. I've got to remain positive. Vernon |

If you get Fred Becker's book, you will NOT need to know anything else about the business until you go work it for yourself. It has everything you need to know, and I mean everything!

Thanks for the tip. A few setbacks have occurred but worked the Edinburgh Festival and...had a good one as they say. Off to Munich and Amsterdam and then America at the end of October.
I will and I can... Vernon UPDATE: Nov 25, 2003 How things change. Finally got over to LA and caught Gazzo at the castle and met some good people. Am currently in Canada and have sent out promo vids to 19 cruise companies (agencies)...Will do follow ups. Still finding my feet and stretching my wee legs. Vernon |

Vernon,
Have you purchased Fred Becker's material yet? I purchased the entire package from him at Dave Dee's conference. I can't emphasize the importance of Fred's stuff. It's the real deal of information. If you purchase it you well never have to purchase another book on cruising. It's THAT complete. Robert Bloor
