I really don't like using the color spot cards that come with this, what other 2 cards do you guys use? I've tried the joker but it can only be shown one way, the ace of diamonds and picture cards seem to work best. I want to get some other feedback. thanks all

I used to perform this trik with the ace of hearts , the ace of clubs, and the joker. Good reactions. Just state that to get 2 aces of clubs you need to buy two decks with the same back.

I always use jokers as well. Never been called on them facing the same way. If this is a concern, you could try using blank cards and you could mark them however you want.

Paul Wilson uses Tarot cards to great effect.

Ive posted this before but.....
I use personalised bicycle cards with MY name on in Two colours red / blue. Check the front design out here http://homepage.ntlworld.com/wayman/pics/monte.jpg I find that people remember my name this way, as they have seen it in print. |

I use an ace of spades and an ace of hearts.
For the finisher i have a blank card with "I accept Visa, Mastercard, and Cash" printed in purple. Love color monte but ppl seem to like ultimonte and ultimate monte better =/ |

There is nothing wrong with the original, which is also pirated as "Gambler's Monte" and "Vegas Monte". It is most likely the top selling packet trick since the seventies.
That's a nice final card Pinkbrain. Paul. |

i use three cards from a normal deck the king of diamonds the joker (which is the one you show twice as two different cards) and the ace of spades thru it my patter is that i learned this from a guy on the street and at the end i say that he said to me "now for double or nothing can you tell me what hard i am holding (while showing the ace and joker)
after i guessed he said "well what would you say if i said i made you see something that was never really there" usually they puase or sometimes they say something but then i say well i guess hat would make me the king and right while saying the word "king" i flip over the king blows em away everytime hope this help Sincerly: Sean |

My problem with the Color Monte cards has always been that they look like they were specially made for the trick (despite their being examinable). Where else would you find cards like that other than a trick from a magic shop? This is not something I would want to convey to my audience. I think using Tarot or regular playing cards is much more potent and looks less 'store-brought'.

LOL, that actually is what you do in Paul Wilson's version of it (Gypsy Monte). It gets a strong reaction too.

I use sourt cards and a blank surprise card at the end. I find that even though I show the queen of hearts twice people are often convinced that I've sh own the diamond and heart. I don't draw attention to the suit. I just say here's a red card and another red card and a black card. I find that people will assume I've shown them the two suits quite often.

Free idea - use a blank faced card with "I.O.U. $700, Signed:" with a space for a signature. Have a pen up your sleeve or somewhere easy to steal from.
As the kicker flip over this card as you get the pen - produce it with a small flourish and offer it to them to sign the marker saying "just sign here". Best, P. Visit http://www.rpaulwilson.com for online magic, Ebooks and hot new products. |

Your Tarot idea is better Paul!
Marko said; "My problem with the Color Monte cards has always been that they look like they were specially made for the trick (despite their being examinable)." So what? Where would you get an endless chain for that scam? It is part of the interest for spectators that they are peculiar cards used in a scam, a novelty aspect. And as you rightly say they can be examined anyway. Maybe it was bought from a gambling supply house? Paul. |

In this trick I use my pater. I talk about my icebox with three plates. On first I have coca cola on second too, and on third pepsicola. My wive sometimes change plates order, and when I can Find pepsi I have problem... not on last, not on first not on midle Plate... Hmmm... ok... maybe I drink cocacola... but on all plates I have Pepsi ....
OK. I open All plates... One with pepsi, one wih cola, and one with beer (on kids shows I change beer to icecreams). |

I use any red and black card that are the same value and then I use a joker for the hidden card. I do color monte after a trick or two and just act like I am trying to think of a trick and then say oh man let me tell you about what happened to me at the carnival. I say something like, you know I am pretty good with cards so when I saw this old fella at the carnival fooling with cards I walked right up. I said that looks like and easy game and he said yeah it is. It only has three cards and two of them aren't even important(name and show) but this is the money card and I perform the routine. At the finish, I ask them if they think it is red or black after showing the top two. After they answer I laugh and say you would have been a joker too. People really love this trick. Always the question is if you have more than 3 cards and then when you give out the cards you can see the wheels turning in their heads.

Although I think some of the moves in color monte are questionable, this is a trick that can be personalized for a specific show, as shown by some of the post above.
During strolling Christmas shows, I have used the Grinch card, Max card (Grinches dog), and a Santa kicker card. The patter revolves aound being cornered by the Grinch after Christmas shopping and he is going to take all my presents...but instead of just taking the presents, the Grinch says we are going to play a little game...of course Santa shows at the end to save the day and chase the Grinch back to Mount Krumpet. I have an Ice Cream social coming up next week for a school. I have already made up a set of 3 different Ice Cream cones and have developed new patter. I believe this trick can be worked into just about any special event. Rich B. |
