My response was "Turret Syndrome huh? Pitty!"

Now I wonder how many of the PC (sensative people) on the Café' are going to blast me for that line!

Don't worry about it, Chris. Many people misspell Tourette.

;)

(You should, however, worry about having misspelled pity; that one's almost inforgivable. Smile Smile)

Touché!

That's why I wrote "almost". Smile

(It must be the keyboard: probably designed by a UCLA, Notre Dame, or Ohio State graduate. Smile Smile)

I miss the days when if a kid got outta line in a public place a parent could (within reason) snatch him up and give a smack on the butt and/or that "look" that said wait till we get home young man! My sons (22 and 25) say that to this day I still have that "look" that commands/demands respect! Then again, my kids STILL refer to their elders as Mr, Missus, Miss, Ma'am, Sir etc. until you give them permission to call them otherwise!

Spare the rod, spoil the child!

You insinuated the same thing you got mad at the kid for saying.

Maybe the kid should not have said it and maybe his dad should have reprimanded him and taught him better, but this is your joke. Not his.

If he didn't say it...or at least think it...your joke makes no sense.

I dig the joke, but this is your own fault.

I won't say too much, because not much needs to be said, but this logic is flawed.

The humor comes from the contrast between the masculine image and the effeminate purse. It is not hinting at homosexuality specifically, and the purpose is not to conjure up some horrible word as Picard said. If a comedian makes a joke about race, it's not his fault if the audience begins using disrespectful slang. This case is even more of a stretch than that, because the "joke", as you say, was not remotely sexual in nature.

The child's reaction just shows very poor manners and worse judgment.

I'm done with the thread as well Pepka, but I think you handled the situation well, and the child's reaction was definitely not your fault.
