Now, here's a pretty cool new toy for magi, lecturers and wizards alike:
http://thewandcompany.com/index.html Various geek and gadget sites say that it's programmable with up to 13 IR functions from any remote - which, to my mind, means it can control video or sound gear. Controlling Powerpoint during a lecture? Controlling your music from the stage? Too bad it isn't RF, huh? I thought it was a joke at first. But, a google search turns up countless geek and gadget sites praising the thing. Go figger.

Initial post and description says it's an "IR (infrared) Remote". Most sound gear, including VSM items are RF (Radio Frequency) operated. IR has the limitation of line of sight operation, meaning you can't have walls or great distance between the remote and receiver. Have to be able to see the receiver to use it.

Nice to see that some other folks are thinking of "Wii" type kinetic controls for consumer applications other than games.
Too bad it seems like the uses of this item for our art are limited. So close, yet so far...

I wonder if you could take out the inner components and custom fashion a regular magicians wand to fit the right size. THen it could be used much more commonly for us.
