Ellusionist's newest deck, The Arcane, is coming out on October 27th. Jason (JBone) has been nice enough to send me a couple to try out. I've been fiddling with them for a bit now and decided to put down some of my observations:

The Arcane deck comes in both black and white versions. The black version has red and white pips on all-black cards, similar to Ellusionist's Black Tiger deck (among others). The white version is more akin to a regular deck with its red and black pips on mostly white cards, however it has a darker red (somewhere between standard Bicycle red and Tactical Field red). Both decks' pips and indices have varying levels of shading which give them some depth.

The decks have very similar back designs and faces. They aren't true negative images of each other, however. While the center and ribbon areas of the back are the same, the black back features what looks to be feathers along the perimeter while the white back has a speckled mosaic effect that is printed full-bleed onto the edge of the card with a slight fade near the edge.

The smoke and shadow effects on the faces are, in my opinion, what really make the deck. The face cards especially, look like they had been in color but the wisps of smoke left them colorless. Even if you're already enamored with your working deck, splitting these faces onto your back-of-choice will give you some great gaffs for changes and the like.

The Arcane Deck is the first to use Ellusionist's new "Aurora" card stock. After handling the cards for a while I can say that it is a thicker stock like most of Ellusionist's other decks, but the cards are still easy to work with. They aren't stiff like cardboard, but aren't flimsy either. To quote little Red Riding Hood, they're "just right".

To be honest, I'm not a fan of Ellusionist's habit of hiding "J4CK 0F 5P4D3S" and other reveals on their boxes. To me the Arcane box was a hugely elegant step forward in their box design. The front showcases the Arcane Spade with its scroll-work reaching around on to the back of the deck. And those who like the reveals, be sure to check out the Jokeress. The box also sports a custom Arcane seal.

I think that's about it. The decks are $6.99 each, or less if you buy multiples.

Thanks George
Sounds like the cards are worth buying. I think that E has put a lot of effort into their creations. Another tool to use when needed.
thanks

I like the back design very much.

I'll probably pick up a pack or two of the white version. I find that black ones are a bit hard on the eyes in that it takes me a second longer to distinguish suit due to being so used to seeing certain suits associated with certain colors, and I feel my audiences, such as they are, may feel the same - even with the hearts and diamonds do have red pips.
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

Are your decks printed perfectly or is the cut a bit off on them?

I've used two of each color decks. Both white decks and one black deck were spot on. The other black deck didn't appear to be off center when I was using them, but when I flipped through the backs I did notice some shifting, although it was pretty minor.
