Can someone refer me to locations or descriptions of " Bill Simon’s Prophecy Move " ?
I have been told this can be used with business cards and am interested in understanding just what it is. Thanks, - Nicodemus

It can be found in his book "Effect Card Magic", which is the same as "Card Magic for Amateurs and Professionals". It's available in Dover reprint under one of those titles (I can't seem to find my copy right now, so I can't tell you WHICH title).
There's some neat stuff in there. Definately worth checking out. The Prophecy move is described in his "Business Card Prophecy" which is a very subtle, nifty routine. Paul

It's in Card magic for Amateurs and Professionals. However, a lot of good magic books will teach you the move. David Regal's Constant Fooling #1 the Card Magic of Nick Trost are just some of the ones where it is taught. Both of these are very much worth the money.

If you go buy ETMCM volume 5 by Ammar, you will learn the move in one of those tricks.

It is in secret sessions if you look hard enough.

It's in Ortiz' Card Shark. Also, it's taught in Another Quick Coincidence by Allan Ackerman on the ETMCM tapes. I believe that's the one on Number 5.

Its very often called "Bill Simon's Business Card Move/Force" these days though the prophecy move is its proper name. Try searches for the alrternative name.

It is also taught in Allan Ackerman's "Here's My Card" and used in his trick "Quick Coincidence." This is a nifty little book, if you can find it.

If you want to learn one of the cleverest principles that this move is used for, totally un related to what it accomplishes, contact an English Cardician called Paul Ingram. Amazing effect!

Actually what I want it for is a mentalism routine using business cards. I just regret having to purchase an entire book for this one move

Grew up near one of the greatest minds in magic the late Stewart James, in a town called Wallaceburg just 15 mins from Courtright where James could be found, time and time again he would inspire me to always be creative and just love all magic.

It is used to put a card, business card, etc... between two known cards. Can be used as a very effective prediction or coincidence effect. Well worth learning and very easy to execute.

Nicodemus,
If your purpose is only to force a specific business card, the Prophecy Move might not be for you. To use the Prophecy Move, you should have a good reason to spread a pack of business cards. I think such action is not natural to do with business cards. Besides, business cards are difficult to spread. In original Simon's "Business card Prophecy", a business card is inserted in a deck of cards. It is not unnatural to do so. If you will explain how you use the forced card, maybe I can advise a good force as I have a very good force of business card. Hideo Kato |

Every problem contains the seeds of its own solution. Unfortunately every problem also contains the seeds of an infinite number of non-solutions, so that first part really isn't super helpful.

If I remember correctly, Bruce Cervon had some work on a very deceptive tabled Prophecy Move from a ribbon spread.

Bill Simon's Prophecy Move originally appeared in "Double Prediction" in Scarne on Card Tricks (1950).
More recently, Simon Aronson explains his very similiar "Mark-A-Place" move in the effect "Mark-A-Place Mates" in the book The Aronson Approach. Simon uses both moves in his work, and I asked him why in a very brief conversation in Las Vegas a couple of years ago. He said that the Prophecy move was move natural if a card or business card or credit card was placed into the deck by a spectator and it's in an outjogged condition. However, if you spread the cards for a spectator to touch one, and pivot it face up as you do the move, then the Mark-A-Place move is the more natural one. Neither of the moves is very difficult, and the Bill Simon Business Card Prophecy effect is a good, quick trick. Dennis Loomis
