I never have heard about the works of M. H. Goodman so far, but as he mentioned his „Minted“ routine in one of the threads here in the café, he called my attention to his ebook „Harbingers“.
You can find the following effects in it: Word of Mouth Page Turner Rhine Gold Minted The ebook is available on imentalism. You can find it for 20,00 £ here: http://www.imentalism.com/index.php/e-bo......rbingers The first effect is a prediction of a word, any word, that you already have written down on your business card at the beginning of the routine, long before the spectator decides on this totally free chosen word. This effect doesn't work in any circumstances, but I predict that everyone who reads the explanation, will find something useful in it! The author has worked out every single subtlety and there are very useful details in it. Important information: No Sw#_* and no po+_;! Wr#*~.& in the basic routine. The second effect called Page Turner is a multi-phase booktest with borrowed books. In the first two phases, a page is selected as the mentalist riffles through the pages. In both instance, the performer is able to divine a word from the chosen page. In the next phase a participant turns to a page of his/her choice and thinks of another word while the performer is facing away. Nothing is written down, and noone else sees the selected page, but the performer is still able to reveal the participant’s word. The author has combined some well known techniques in mentalism with some subtleties to a wonderful three-phase booktest, that could not be stronger. Imho, this one is a winner! „Rhine Gold“ is a nice effect with ESP symbols. First of all the performer knows the symbol that the spectator chooses. Afterwards he transmits his own selection to the spectator and this phase gets repeated wit reversed roles. Again the author describes in great detail everything necessary to perform this routine. The last effect Minted is described as follows: A participant correctly identifies which of the performer’s hands holds a coin. He or she also identifies whether the coin is heads or tails up, what denomination it is and in which year it was minted. This effect requires no props other than ordinary coinage. This was the effect that called my attention to „Harbingers“. During the last weeks I was working on my own mentalism effect with coins and tried to get as much material as possible about this kind of effects. In „Minted“ I found so much useful information and refinements that I will use in my very own upcoming coin routine. The whole concept described to achieve the effect as written above, has one technique in it, that I personally dislike, as it does not fit my personal habits. Nevertheless the other things going on during the effect have been very helpful to me!!! One idea perfectly fits to the next and the routine is well assembled. All in all I really enjoyed reading this ebook. The author combines some well known mentalism techniques with fresh thinking. The result is some very well worked out effects! There are some things in his book that I defenitly will use! Best regards from germany, Dominik |

Mark is a wonderfully clever guy. I really enjoyed Mark's excellent approach of blending methods and thoughful presentions. Here are some comments about the work:
Word of Mouth- is an excellent frame for a classic method. These types of presentations really speak to me. You write down a word, they are influenced to speak it. Custom framing; I love it. Page Turner- is booktest that is structured to follow word of mouth. I am sure these effects would blend perfectly, Eash effect stregthening the premise and impact of the other. Nice "one-two" punch. Rhine Gold: is an ESP symbol routine that also is a ingenious blend of a psychological technique and a commonplace tool that everyone mentalist should have around. I told Mark this is a way I would use that item from the tool-belt. Subtle and direct. Minted: Basically, an imagined coin routine. I really enjoyed reading Mark's since I had address the exact same premise myself. I love his combined methods and the fact that you can give this "proof positive" coin, at the end. Well done. Mark is a calculating guy, who really thinks through the motivations of each technique. His writing style is clear and thoughful; great stuff. Well done, Mark. Sean |
