Last night , In Bridgeport CT at the New Magicians Association a crowd of Magicians ,young and old, had the enthralling pleasure of "The Ammar Experience" Lecture.
I was not able to make the the one-on-one workshop so I will keep my review on the main lecture. As most of you in magic especially cards and closeup, the is something known as the Ammar Factor . He is seen, by many, as the Torchbearer of great teachers of magic. Since by magic law you are required to purchase the Easy To Master Card Series when starting magic, he has a certain celebrity status in the community. So a lot of the people last night were there Just to see him . ( I was one of them and it was the first time I saw him live) The Ammar Factor aside , It was 3+ hours of the best magic tutelage anyone could every receive. The reason he is held in such high regard became evident in the first 15 seconds when he commanded our attention with his opening effect "Hally's Comet" a fiery production and vanish of rubber ball. The context and storyline of the effect drew everyone in and that is where Ammar's Lecture excels. Every single one the effects he taught, had so much design and engineering a certain German Automaker would learn a thing or two. He did an excellent job of imparting the "Major Secrets" of magic that does not bore you like a University Professor. He continued to en-rapt us with a comedy torn $100 bill routine that culminated later in the act with a very unexpected bill in lemon ending. The card portion was just right with 2-3 effects. There is no doubt in anyone's mind the Michael Ammar has "chops". His Topit work is amazing and to see his cups and balls routine was breathtaking. He has a number of new effects he taught using a regular cell phone and 2 specific to the iPhone. Also we learned a few "bits of business" that can be done practically anywhere . The 4 card effects were Albo Card , Feets of Surprise , Torn Card and the last one eludes me. His discussion on the spectators point of view and expectations of card effects was worth every penny of the Lecture fee. His engaging and patient style is evident from years of masterful teaching. Throughout the lecture it was clear, we were encouraged to seek knowledge from a generous friend that was for that night Ammar. EVERY genre of magician should go to this lecture for it will be your chance to have Master Yoda impart the workings of the Force in only the way he can.
Have a Magical Day!
