Good morning, I would like to introduce myself and at the same time ask for any recommendations on Gospel magic. My name is Anthony and I live in NY, I have been doing magic on and off (more off)for a long time. For brevity's sake I planning to marry a Southern Baptist. I attended a revival during Aug.and Thank God !After that I went to Doc Haley and purchased He Died for you, Eternal life assurance policy, The Bible tear, and both a blank and standard Bible coloring book.I would like to know what would be best to obtain next. My son is getting married in May in NC and when I go back I want to show my love for the Lord by performing a show at that little church in Pageland SC . Thank you all ,in Christ Anthony

Welcome...
I have shared at many churches including at Southern Baptist Churches. It is a blessing to share our gifts with others. Music (I play with church's Praise and Worship Team) is a great addition to my magic and puppetry. I also use a strait jacket routine at times when I share my testimony. Though effects especially designed as Gospel Magic are great, others you already know/and have can be adapted to this kind of ministry. Be safe, well and blessed. Harris

If you're not already, I reccomend you sign up for Duane Laflin's ADVANCE news letter, and that you buy the back issues that are available for purchase. Pretty much any laflin products are probably a good start. Also, a pretty standard gospel magic prop is Strat-o-sphere, which is a great effect with a strong biblical application.

My bad.(lol) After reading your post again I see you know about Doc Haley's store. Are you a member of The Fellowship Of Christian Magician's?
Here is another good link. MagicBus a member here has a website http://www.christianmagician.org/ It contains several half hour programs called, Now That's Magic". You can watch and download for free. Some really good stuff in there, as well as some well known Gospel magicians, including Duane Laflin. Check it out if you haven't yet.

Another avenue is to purchase secular effects and add your own spiritual applications. Focus on the message and how it can be presented through the magic. Think it through carefully and don't rush into settling on an application that is weak or shallow. Remember the message is more important than the magic.

Although it is good to have material that others have worked hard on, everyone's style of presentation is different enough that you may not care for what other's do (such is the case for me). I've actually gotten some of the best ideas from posts here on the Café. Again, think "message", and then use your knowledge of magic to see what could be done to go along with that message. If you want my opinon, the story of Blondin, the first tight-rope walker to cross Niagara falls has great potential. He was tremendous, but the story of him asking if anyone would trust him to carry them across in a wheelbarrow, after seeing him take the wheelbarrow across, and no one taking him up on the offer, is a tremendous way to illustrate the difference between intelectual assent, and true faith/trust. In the case of Blondin, the only one that would put their trust in him, was his reluctant manager, Harry Colcord. Harry was told "Harry, you are not longer Colcord; you are Blondin. Until I clear this place, be a part of me - mind, body and soul. If I sway, sway with me. Do not attempt to do any balancing yourself.".. Should give you something to think about. I've been working on and off for about 4 years on how to present this message in a gospel magic show. I like the imagery of a string/rope hung between 2 candlesticks (and put such on my dinning room table as a constant reminder), or a person's hands if close up. I will then link a ring to the string for Blondin's crossing, and then link a second to the first to represent him carrying his manager. I've worked through totally non-gimmicked ways, gimmicked rope, and gimmicked ring methods. If anyone is interested, or has some ideas, please PM me. John Long
