Hello gang,
I was just thinking that there are few people on the Café that are helping us with their time, advice, and guidance to become better performers. I'm a recent member myself but after reading and posting few topics, I got two kind of advices, some that cost a lot of effort and money...and some that helped me improve as a performer and were spot on. I'm sure that during your journey as well, there were members on the Café here that without meeting them, you felt as if you know them and they are kind of a mentor to you...you believe in what they say and respect their point of view when it's related to our beloved art... my heros are Lawrence O, Bob Sanders, Jaz, Bill Palmer, Scott Guinn, Funsway. I want this thread to be a special thank you for these guys and would like everyone who have a hero on this Café to add his name... |

You new people should always talk to one of us before you spend your money. That's a line of good advice there!! |

You listed some top guys on there. I'd have to add Pete Biro as well, Pete is always a tremendous asset to the Café. But that is what the Café is about Magicians helping magicians.

Bill Palmer, John Mendoza and Matt Tomasko help me so much; they are sweet, lovely and deeply talented! I am a newbie and all the books are not enough to learn the most necessary effects because I always need the background of some performers!

Since I like to ponder why I am doing magic as well as how, Bill Palmer, Lawrence O, Whit Haydn and Johnathan Townsend head my list --
which doesn't mean that I always agree with what they say. On a practical side Mb has been the biggest help

One name immediatly comes up to me : The Godfather himself, Vinny Marini!
Such a nice and generous man who, unlike others, doesn't just recommand some of HIS material. Thanks Vinny! |

Although I havent been here long, I did browse the forum for some time before joining. The people whos posts I have found very informative and interesting are, in no particular order : Bill Palmer, Whit Haydn, Pete Biro, Michael Vincent, Funsway, Harry Lorayne, Lawrence O, and I have to agree with Danik1 - Although I have never met Mr Marini, from what I have read of his personal posts and those of others, he has to be one of the nicest guys in magic !

Some of those you have named are knowledgeable, respected and helpful members of the art and of the magic Café but you are missing one of the best kept secrets on the Magic Café: George Ledo
Read the posts in his section "Notes from a Designer's Logbook - by George Ledo" http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewf......m=173&56 Full of great, insightful and thought provoking information Really great stuff and a must read I'll never be one of the greatest guys here (nor would I ever want to be) because I will always be caustic (in part to balance the lovefest that is a negative to real growth). Many so called magic organizations are a backslapping fest that helps no one, part of the reason I don't care to belong to the IBM, SAM or what have you Even here at the Café it's too nicely, nice and not enough honesty. That hurts those who really want to get better and hinders growth. There are far too many performing publicly who should not be, it hurts the art and keeps the public's perception of magic relegated to the lowest rung of the entertainment ladder Case in post, someone who posts on the Café often put up a video and everyone was blowing smoke up his dress about how great the performance was. In truth parts of it were good but there was a glaring error I PM'ed the poster and in a reasonably and professional fashion pointed out the challenge and his response was "laypeople never see it". That told me the poster will never be a good performer until they get beyond that thought. There is no such thing as good enough in our art and in public performing. The layity may not "see" it but they will sense it. Read all Vernon and Wonder wrote about naturalness of movement

Good call Gaddy, how could we forgot Payne. He did a great presentation at McBride's school and has a good book out
Father Photius understand the art as well. Many here do Don't include me, I'm a nasty old so and so and plan to stay that way until our art returns to the stature it had circa 1865
