I did this today for a real crowd, not freinds or family, and with the little practice I had, it went over very well, I got a few people to jump back and scream, and that is why I do magic,

I received my review copy of Hondo’s "Picasso Bands" yesterday so as yet have not had an opportunity to routine and perform these effects for an audience. I thought however I would write an initial review for you anyway, just to bring another opinion to the table.
What you receive: A nicely presented DVD packaged with enough high quality coloured rubber bands to keep you happy & performing these effects for some time. You actually receive four different types of band which will enable you to perform all of the material taught on this DVD. The effects: If you currently perform any of the numerous variations of linking bands you may be surprised to learn that there are a number of new elements to "Picasso Bands" that you will not have seen before. There are three effects included on the DVD and ultimately what sets this apart from the current competition is the way that Hondo has managed to create a real point of difference between each of them. Forgive me if I am wrong, but a multiple phase routine that simply shows rubber bands linking and un-linking throughout can get a touch long in the tooth. The great thing about "Picasso Bands" is that only one of the effects, "Picasso Link" (which I feel is the most visual link yet created) has actually anything to do with the linking process. In many ways the other two effects, "Picasso Twist" & "Picasso Merge" are the real stars. These two effects open up a lot of new presentational possibilities and are the perfect addition to creating more original, interesting, and visual rubber band routines DVD quality: I would rate the overall quality of the DVD as adequate. The tutorial elements are actually well shot however the video was originally recorded in Japan with Japanese dialogue and due to a few confusing subtitles, it dose fall slightly short. Ease of learning: The overall handling is pretty straight forward. There is a certain knack required within "Picasso Link” but nothing that should give anyone here any sleepless nights or concerns. Overall: As mentioned I have not had any opportunity to perform the three effects supplied with "Picasso Bands" but from what I have seen I have to say that I am pretty impressed. Some people may feel that this DVD lacks in depth routining and presentation and they maybe correct - however the possibilities with these new effects should be obvious enough to any performer and as such I do not feel it to be an issue. Hope this review helps a bit! |

Well, I'm working with these now and should be ready to perform shortly.
Hondo has put a lot of thought and effort into a fine, four phase routine that packs tiny. You can amaze any audience*, anytime with the Picasso Bands. *(Those of you who work Madison Square Garden will probably want to bring a big screen monitor.) The bands are very high quality and I seriously doubt anyone will be able to spot the modification, even on close examination. The sequence begins with the conventional Crazy Man's Handcuffs that many of us already use. Hondo goes over the moves for this for those who don't know it. Then it follows logically to Picasso Twist, Link and Merge, ending clean and ready to go again. All moves are simple and straightforward with the "Link" move requiring more practice in order to look smooth. Even a slow motion effect is possible with practice. Everything can be don under the spectators' noses. Angles are no problem at all. Let me qualify that by saying that I haven't performed this for 8 year olds yet. The feature I like best about the DVD is that it is presented from the performer's perspective. This makes the learning so much easier. It's all shot close up on a plain black mat very clearly. The techniques of slow motion and stop-action are used at critical points. Concise, written titles describe the steps. There is no dialogue because none is necessary. You are free to use your own character and creativity to work up your own presentation. The quantity of bands is generous but I think you will definitely need plenty of refill packs, especially if you perform for children. This is one of those effects you will use often. I really can't find anything to criticize about this at all. Picasso Bands has all of the elements of a great close up effect; it's clean, simple, easy to follow, has multiple phases, requires almost no space and has a big magical impact. I will report back shortly with video but my first impression is that there will be a very high astonishment to weight ratio for this routine for just about everyone. Great work Hondo! More to come L8r, Jazzy

Believe the hype!
Congratulations to HONDO. The Picasso bands package is excellent. The bands themselves are very well made and colorful. The 3 bands offered, Twist, Link and Merge will go right into your rubberband performing set. For the most part the 3 effects are pretty easy and are eye popping to your spectators. The linking effect will take a little more practice but is worth the effort. There has been some talk on the Café of spectators seeing the gaff in the Merge and Link bands. This is a non issue. Basically the seams are invisible and I cannot imagine anyone questioning this. The 3 effects taught on the DVD are very clear you will have no problem learning the handling's. After some time with the bands you will probably come up with some of your own effects using the Picasso bands. Also since refill packs will be available many will be giving the bands out as souvenirs. If you perform rubberband magic or want to start, the Picasso bands is an excellent product. |

First I like to thank you for allowing me to demo Picasso Bands. I opened my dvd and I have to say that I was excited to see all the rubberbands There are plenty of bands to work the magic.Bands are nice colors and have very nice feel to them. And come very ready to perform with.I like the dvd it's very well explained, which the simpler the better, for myself. As for the seams of the rubberbands, Personally I have no problem with them or having people find them, if they examine them.To me they just don't seem to be a big deal. I say purchasing Picasso bands is money well spent. Thanks again Hondo! Michael

The quaility of these bands are AWSOME. I do a lot of rubber band magic. And I had bought SLR, which look strange, and were way more expensive. Picasso Bands are a way better buy. This is one effect that will Stump anyone. I spent 2 years messing around with bands trying to make the right type of bands. And Hondo has created them. Hope to meet you soon....
