Ian Kendall has a new downloadable pdf on the pass, called 'The Work', which continues the previous teaching instruction pdfs put out by Michael Close. It is at http://www.virtualmagicshow.com/shop/ and costs £10. It has text and illustrations, along with embedded videos to demonstrate the main moves. It starts with the classic pass, moves on to a very sneaky 'simple pass', then runs through some other passes.
Ian's teaching is always of a very high standard, as those who subscribed to his virtual sessions will attest. I'm enjoying working through this, and I'm sure others of you out there will too. |

Here's my review of the same from Magic Bunny:
Title:The Work Volume 4 - The Pass Author:Ian Kendall Price:£10 Publisher:Ian Kendall Date:December 2009 Pages/Length:34 ePages + video instruction Difficulty:6/10 Out of 10:9/10 Contents Quote: Following on from Michae Close's groundbreaking series of eBooks, Ian has taken over The Work with volume 4 - The Pass. This 37 page eBook combines the detailed, structured writing for which Ian has become known with clear photographs and sixteen video clips that show every step in exacting detail. Five passes are covered, the classic pass, Ian's Simple pass, riffle pass, turnover pass and the one handed pass. As they used to say - equal to personal instruction. Comments I am a great believer in adult learning “styles”, I train online and in classrooms for a living, but I do get rather annoyed when people profess they cannot learn from one method or another – because it’s not their “style”. It’s all about preferences, not absolutes. I have tried, in many occasions to learn a Pass – from books. First of all RRTCM, (which completely put me off), then Giobbi’s Card College, and it almost made sense, but not enough for me to want to learn it fully, and put in the effort needed. I received an email from Ian Kendall yesterday, pointing to The Work Volume 4 – The Pass, which he is selling at http://www.virtualmagicshow.com/shop/ for a measly £10. My immediate thought was hmmmm, then I thought I would try it – after all, it has video clips etc. in it, and he looks like he needs some cash to replace that leather presenting chain of his soon Anyway – to cut a long story short, I don’t think I own a better constructed, well-presented piece of “blended” learning anywhere. Ian is a natural teacher. The eBook consists of 37 pages, and has embedded video clips, (you will need Adobe Acrobat 9 to watch, free from Adobe). Of course, I am not saying that I have now mastered the Pass, there’s hours of practice there, however, what I am saying is that it now MAKES SENSE. The 3 basic components of the mechanics are well taught, and then are simply put together into a whole. I had a sudden “aah!” moment when I tried the Classic Pass for the first time following along, and was somewhat surprised to see my turned-over card at the top when I looked down at the cards again! Everything is explained in well-written words, with acompanying photos. There's also a video section that then ties it all together. Five passes are covered, the Classic Pass, Ian's Simple Pass, Riffle Pass, Turnover Pass and the One-Handed Pass. Ian’s Simple Pass reminds me (in terms of “balls of steel - just do it quotient”) to the Paul Rosini False Cut, (which I use frequently, and is highly disarming whilst being incredibly easy) As Ian’s tagline says; “Maximum Instruction, Minimum Production Values”. Give me this kind of teaching anyday. Excellent, and highly recommended to anyone who wants to learn 1 - 5 passes easily. Bruce |

This is excellant. If you've ever struggled with the pass this is the PDF for you. Ian teaching is excellant and he breaks everything down in to workable steps so you can bring it all together.

I wish I had time to give this a longer review, but Bruce has done an excellent job.
In my opinion, Ian Kendall is the best teacher of magic I have ever read/watched. He has an unmatched ability to teach moves by breaking them down into their component steps. Ian has completely nailed the approach to teaching magic through a combination of written word and video clips. After you buy this fantastic training aid on the pass, you'll want to join his incredible Virtual Session site. This gets my highest recommendation! Best, James |
