Hello Mark, and Thank You for taking time to be here. Your Sight Unseen Case and your Seven Keys to Baldplate effects are both really fantastic.
My question is: Do you use a marked deck in your walk around mentalism? If so, which system do you use, and could you give me some idea of the type of effects? Spectator as Mentalist, Super memory?

When I'm doing strolling magic perhaps mixed with mentalism, I will have a deck of cards with me, but not for the mentalism. Understand, I'm not against using playing cards in mentalism (another topic altogether which I'm sure we'll get in to), but I just don't use them while doing strolling mentalism. With regards to marked cards, I DO use them frequently in my straight mentalism work (close-up, parlor or stage). My personal favorite is the Lesley deck (PLEASE don't support the knock-offs that are out there of Ted's marvelous deck, get the original!). I use other forms of marking, too, depending on the use of the deck and what I need to know. But my personal fave is still the Lesley deck. It's simply incredible what you can do with it! Mark

When you mention the Ted Lesley deck, do you primarily use his first ("Working Performer's"), or his second ("Working Mentalist's")?

I have never heard of the mentalist deck, could you elaborate?

The working MENTALISTS deck is the same marked deck with many other practical ideas for the mentalist rather than the magician in mind including the easiest, most practical memorized deck system around where once you have learned it (10 minutes) you never have to practice it again, and a great any card at any number effect.

Mark,
You said; "If I'm doing strolling mentalism only I don't use playing cards at all as a general rule. When I'm doing strolling magic perhaps mixed with mentalism, I will have a deck of cards with me, but not for the mentalism." Do you not use your Budweiser card version of Fred from your book "Mobile Mentalism"? Or do you class that as magic rather than mentalism? You obviously have no problem in mixing magic and mentalism together? Best wishes, Paul. |

Glad to see someone has it on the ball (and it's obviously not me....) Lately I've been using another version of the exact same effect called 'Psychic Psnoop' which uses Snoopy and Charlie Brown playing cards. Same exact handling and basic effect, but can obviously play to a wider audience than the beer cards I've used before (and what is described in Mobile Mentalism). Thanks for the heads up, Paul. I trust this finds you well and busy. Take care. Mark
