I just got home from the new Mystique in Boise. They had their "soft opening" last night, and tonight was officially the grand opening. It was awesome!
The place is set up like a mansion--really gorgeous. Beautifully decorated. You are met at the door by butlers in tuxedos and white gloves and ladies in beautiful flowing gowns. Then you are ushered into a lovely "chamber" where there is a large table that seats 18. You're waited on hand an foot during a five course meal that is out of this world (my wife and I had the prime rib). After dinner, we were treated to a 45-minute show by Farrel Dillon. Farrell is exceptionally technically proficient, but he is also warm, friendly, funny, likable--very charismatic. He did some great magic and was a lot of fun. After Farrell's show we went to the bar, where Jon Armstrong entertained us with world-class card magic for 20 minutes or so. My buddy Vic and I and out wives hung out with Jon and Farrell for a half hour or so after they closed. Really good guys as well as great magicians. All in all, it was a thoroughly delightful evening. Anyone living in or visiting the Boise area should definitely carve out some time for dinner and magic at Mystique! Highest recommendation!

Nice to hear about place that make a real effort. A refreshing break from the tee shirt & cutoff joints that are so pervasive. Sounds like it would be a great place to work. Best of luck to them.

Would love to have a look at this place if I ever get to the states.

I wish there was a place like that around here.
Now there are two reasons for me the check out Idaho.
I am getting so tired of slitting the throats of people who say that I am a violent psychopath.

BTW, if you're planning a visit to Boise and want to go to Mystique, let me know before you order your tickets--I can get you a substantial "insider's" discount.

There used to be a place in Issaquah--called "Illusions" or something like that.
(I'm from Tacoma originally, and still get up there a couple times a year to see family. That place was still there a year or so ago--don't know if it is now.)

You are right about Illusions, but from what I heard from my colleagues, that place has not been the same since years ago. I don't even know if they are in business anymore
I also remember couple years ago there was a plan to start a magic restaurant, something happened and the restaurant folded within a year.

From the sounds of it, that type of restaurant would flourish in a big city. Maybe the owners will do do in the future?

Wow..that sucks..i was looking forward to it... my friend John went there about 2 or 3 yrs ago and met jon armstrong, it was pricey but you got a ton of food and entertainment...to hear it closed down really dampers my trip, there isn't even a magic shop there... I grew up in magic shops and in Café's and diners that have magicians...now that I have kids I want them to experience it...i haven't even been to mystique and it hurts...reminds me of when Mecca Magic in New Jersey closed down...too bad.
anyway, thanks for the update guys. Junior

That blue turf hurts my eyes. I'm sure the mansion looks even better inside.!
