I've heard of a website that makes really high quality t**** tips but I'm not sure what the site is. Can someone point me to the right direction?

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Mike:

See http://www.magic-frediup.com

I know you've heard all the thumb tip stories - let me just say that I use a $2 thumb tip and I've never ever had a problem.

Agree with Jim.
The only "issue" I've ever had with a TT is size. (It does matter Smile )

I have large thumbs and some just don't fit well. Once you find one that fits AND holds the loads you want, then like they say, it could be painted chrome and it wouldn't matter.

I've been using a plastic Vernet since the 70's. It even split down the side and I sealed it with super-glue and kept right on going. I've NEVER been caught.
...what if I could read your mind?

I have small fingers, you think I should go with a small size or should I go a sIze bigger so it'll hold the loads better?

Well, actually you can go with a small size but with an extended length. Your best approach is to attend a conference or some type of magic meeting with vendors present. That way you can try on many different TT's until you find the one that's perfect for you. Buying one on-line is a crap shoot unless you know exactly what you want.

May I suggest getting a Vernet Finger set. One of the tips may fit it right.
They are probably around $12.00 or so.

Great idea Mr Sanders! No more fumbling for me! I second the motion to go to a magic dealer or somewhere you can try on a bunch of tips until you know what you like.

In addition to the size and important consideration is how hard the tt is. I have a hard tt that is great for bill switches and a slightly softer one that I prefer for my silk to rose routine. You want a tt that feels right for the routine you are doing. Yet another reason to make a serious effort to try before you buy if at all possible.

Yes also thanks from me guys. I have a cheap one that I don't like but I couldn't decide if I just needed bigger (I have big hands) or if I needed to also spend more.... I'll try a cheap but larger one.

They should have a TT swap at conventions. People can bring the tips they don't use and try on a bunch until they find the right one.

Tiggod, if your tip is too small for your thumb it might work well on another finger tip.

I just remembered, I also have a metal one intended to vanish a lighted cigarette. I never smoked cigarettes, but just having the ability to vanish one could be important some day.......?

Wow, those are some expensive TT's on that site! I think I'd stick with the Vernet's. You can get about a half dozen for the price of one of theirs, and like it's been said, nobody notices them.

Has anyone seen the video of the girl who pulls a red silk out then vanishes it, then takes an item of clothing off and does it again then takes an item of clothing off and does it again and so on and so on? She sort of makes it look like she is being tricky with sleight of hand and her clothing until the final time when she is totally naked... Then everyone is wondering where she hid it (I'm not going to say in polite company where she appears it from)

Misdirection is everything.......

btw this is not some strange porn I have been watching... it's in front of thousands of people on stage..

Here is another source for some nice looking tips. Kinda spendy but not as spendy as the other site listed.

http://www.hottrix.com/html/TUsoft.shtml

I don't own one of these types, so can't say for sure but they look nice.

I've been using the same tip since 1978. Large rubber type, not that hard plastic kind. I think it is a Vernet, but I'm not sure. The magic store had a shoebox full of different kinds/colors/sizes and I just tried them on till I found one that felt right. Man they last for ever!

I would recommend a 'Rubber' type, they are less likely to crack, chip or split at the seam.

Tiggod- That would be Ursula Martinez. Clever routine, but after the first vanish, when people realize what's going on, nobody cares anymore how she makes it vanish. They only want to know how many articles of clothing she'll remove!

I don't think there is a "best" TT. Only the best one for you. I have several and my favorite is a cheap thin plastic diFata tip.

I've got to say that there are several kids who know the vanishing hanky because they have a magic set at home or the Klutz magic book or they spend way too much time on the internet. I've been busted twice (sort of - actually once was when a kid called out the method, referencing Night at the Museum and I was really doing a dye tube trick - that one enhanced the trick because the kid was so blown away when he thought he knew what was happening) by kids who are already aware of this gimmick. Avoid the obvious and predictable silk vanish and use the TT for something else if you can.

Gary Darwin's DVD set about the TT has some great stuff in it, but I do think it is overpriced. However, he points out that it can be used for more than just a vanish. Several of the effects are transformations instead. Great idea and the point is well made.

Yep, could you count that as very effective misdirection? At the least it's making sure your performance entertains and is not just a series of standard tricks Smile

I use a plastic vernet and don't get caught either but I don't agree with the chrome theory. I think a few considered flashes work well when handling a thumb tip and the vernet works well for that. It's a good colour and shape.
