After months of doing that and seeing it all stack up, I went right back to the things I really enjoyed learning and showing- A few card tricks with some basic sleights (thanks Aldo!), Holy Moly, a simple coin trick with a quarter & $1.00 coin and a little rope routine I got from Colombini. Just recently I got Pocket Space Plus and have practiced that a lot and have now started carrying it around as I felt it was something I could do well, and people responded to it. But I still keep seeing how I can do it better! Now don't get me wrong, I still want to get new things, and do now and then, but I have stopped trying to buy & try everything and have just decided to be the best I can at a few things. Once I think I have tired of something, I know there's so much more I can explore and work on. Some things I also know I just won't be good at and that's OK. I tried some linking rings and holy smokes, that's just not me! Those are in the sell pile. Anyway, I have come back to this thread several times and it's all very good advice. Thanks everyone who has contributed to it! |

That's a wise decision. Instead buying zillions of tricks and most of them will end up in the drawer, just pick three to five tricks you can do the best. I know now that I already pick my best five tricks without gimmick card and perhaps 3 or 4 tricks with gimmick cards.
And learn some poker-theme tricks. It's one of the simple trick that can be done for almost anyone. Andrew Murray got one on his Thirteen - The Greatest Easy To Do Card Tricks. John Bannon has the Power of Poker in his Bullet After Dark DVD. Or just do Chen Long's Shuffle Lesson. Those three are pretty powerful effects. Hope it helps.
