Anyone who bought this? if so: would be interested in a feedback about this part:
"* REAL Mind Reading. Notice how someone speaks, how they act, and then tell the person about their inner drives, why they do what they do (even if they don't know), what they secretly expect from others, what they really want, how they see themselves, what they fear and more. How's that for real Mind Reading? " is it really based on psychology or is it a sort of stock-reading/pseudo-psychology? |

This kind of work is always interesting. Understanding psychology is the closest we will ever be to real mentalism.

Beyond the fact that he has given it the WORST... NAME... EVER in the entire history of mentalism...
The optimistic part of me thinks it sounds potentially interesting and useful. The cynical part of me thinks it sounds like he slapped together a standard personality test with some standard mental magic effects. I too would be interested to hear from anyone who had it.
Every problem contains the seeds of its own solution. Unfortunately every problem also contains the seeds of an infinite number of non-solutions, so that first part really isn't super helpful.

Now that he named it Ennematic, we can make the conclusion that it builds on that personality test, so now we know what we get. Having bought several things from Kenton, I'll say that I didn't like everything, but there always (with perhaps one exception) was at least one part of everything that I liked and found useful. |

I just posted my comments about this on my website and included them in this weekend's free newsletter. But let me address the questions and "points" addressed in this thread.
The name is based on Enneagrams which have been around for quite some time (at least a few decades, if not more) and has been considered a valid way to categorized personalities. Thus the name, Enneagramatic, is an adjective form of the word. I would agree that this name seems cryptic, if you're not familiar with the established Enneagrams in which case the name is hardly the worst. The name, in fact, fits very well. ("ic" means "having some charistics of") As to what it is, it is NOT a "standard personality test with some standard mental magic effects." In fact, the test isn't there at all. And there's one card effect (albeit a good one). Enneagramatic uses the categories and allows you to cold read a person using the definitions of the Enneagram system. I'll stop just short of saying it's a must-have, but it's inexpensive price makes it very worth checking out. -- Jheff http://www.MarketplaceoftheMind.com

Hi Guys,
I was honoured that Kenton took my basic Enneagram effect, which came from a presentation that I originally used the Maven 'PHIL' deck for (you can see that here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cs5CGmsFl1U&feature=related ), and turned it into into a really lovely mind reading manuscript. Together we worked on many aspects of how to use the basic Enneagram Test in a variety of ways and have included some cool 'simple charts' for easy memorisation etc. It's not for me to 'sell' or 'push' the document here, but it would love to here from any folk who have it. I enjoyed the useful review highlighted above. With all good wishes, Mark Townsend |

Ps. Please don't be put off by the slightly long into (on the Youtube video). It was from a TV Interview I did on some of the retreat work I do. The effect does come... (just couldn't get you a shorter clip).

Hallo,
I bought ennematic. unfortunately on page 52 there is a lack of information: at 3. 10 of diamonds there is no equivalent for the tarot. at 6. king of diamonds there is no equivalent for the tarot. at 9. jack of heards there is no equivalent for the tarot. does anybody know the equivalents? |

So sorry Backinblack,
Only just come across your post. I've been in hospital for a bit and pretty 'knocked about.' Not sure why there was a lack of info on p.52. Really sorry. The best way to convert regular cards into tarot is to simply transfer hearts to cups, spades to swords, diamonds to coins/pents and clubs to wands. The numbers / court cards stay the same (but you have to see the jack as both page and knight. Hope that helps a little? Mark |

Ps. Here's a wee clip of me using, not the enneagram but the myers briggs (jungian) personality type indicator for Maven's wonderful 'PHIL' effect.
I'll try and find am enneagram clip too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRE_688Jkoc&feature=related |

Found one:
Here's the enneagram (used for PHIL) trick. It begins about half way through the interview. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cs5CGmsFl1U |

Do you think Ennematic can work in other languages? (French, Spanish, Italian)
Thanks! |

I would think so my friend.
The enneagram is a totally universal psychological tool. Mark |

IMO, I think engrams are sudo psychology and worthless when dealing with true psycho social issues. They border on esoterical systems like astrology and mostly provide at best a general look at ones character. At worst they indulge those looking to justify personality defects, by their "type" classification.
For mentalism however, they do provide a way of connecting to those who know and are familiar with engrams. But if your participants have never heard of them, you could just as easily do readings, based on anything else you might want to do a reading on?
No matter how many times you say the wrong thing, it will NEVER be right.
If I'm not responding to you? It's because you're a TROLL! |

I think taking a minute to explain the enneagram to the audience greatly improves the effect and if done properly, holds their attention. It works for me.
