My eyes are tired, my joy is old, and my heart is hard towards magic....I'll be honest to say that my passion for this art is fleeting. And how it burns me! You've heard it said by them of old time, when you practice, don't make it seem like work. And how toilsome work it has been for me...I need fresh eyes and a renewed mind towards magic...But I don't know how to get it, I want to come back to my first love for it where all I wanted to do was practice and perform. But sadly I change the subject when magic is mentioned and become angry when a friend wants me to perform...Enough is enough and it's time for a change. But how can I make a change? Has anyone else gone through this before? I need help!

Many have gone through it.
DON'T SELL YOUR BOOKS! You'll be looking for 'em in auctions a few years later. Just give it a rest. Good luck. - Mary Mowder |

Well, I can tell you that a 14 year old grandson is a hell of a jump start on your enthusiasm. Perhaps you could enjoy teaching magic to some really interested newbie. The other thing that works for me is changing the "venue" of the magic- right now I am working on "con" routines- 3 card monte (the real con), the shell game, endless chain etc. It gives me a chance to use sleights in a different way. Before that I tried busking, which is really lots of fun.
I agree with Mary- good advice, hers. Jim
Also known, when doing rope magic, as "Cordini"

Maybe just a brief hiatus in which you allow yourself to be refreshed by taking on a different, totally new hobby for a while, and just totally forget about magic will be what is needed to help you come back at a later time with renewed interest and enthusiasm.
In the meantime, just put it all aside. Keep it out of sight out of mind. Don't rush things. Look at it like you would a good love affair. If it's meant to be then, it will be again when the mind is ready.
The difficult must become easy, the easy beautiful and the beautiful magical.
