As I have said before, I'm expecting a Tenyo trick in the mail. It's entitled Coin Fan Mystery (T-012). Will anyone be able to tell me anything about it? I've never seen the Coin Fan Mystery before.

Hi Kabanning:
This is essentially a fan that can be opened and shown on both sides. When closed you can produce a coin (appears copper but is plastic) at the end of the fan. You could pretend to remove the coin and produce additional coins. In my opinion more of a collectible than a preformance item. John |

So you can't actually use this in a performance?

You can use it but understand you have purchased an older and somewhat fragile prop. I'm not sure it would stand up to repeated usage. Also the coin as included on the prop does not really look like anything from North America (from a distance looks like a large penny). You will determine better once you receive it if it will meet your needs. I am happy to have a coin fan in my collection, but it is not something I would perfrom with.

I generally am very careful with my props. About eighty percent of them are vintage magic.
But all this does sound very fascinating. Although, how many coin fan reprints were there from Tenyo? I've seen several different versions of the coin fan listed as Tenyo coin fans. |

The Coin Fan in actually not discontinued. As far as I know Tenyo still sells it in Japan with newer packaging.
You can see a video of Tenyo's coin fan here: http://tenyomagic.free.fr/index2.php?pg=T-1_71-9# Here's another coin fan video. It's not Tenyo's but it's the same idea. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QtSnm96VSuk |

Interesting xl18. On the master product list on the Tenyo website it indicates that the Coin Fan is discontinued. The only ones I have ever seen come up for sale are older stock. The coin fan in the second video looks much nicer than the Tenyo version, I wonder who makes it?

The English version is discontinued but the Japanese version (T-12) is not:
http://www.tenyo.co.jp/magic/library/fm_listall.html (The ones with the * have been discontinued in Japan) As you can see the packaging is completely different than the old version. I don't know if any changes were made to the trick itself. |

Just received confirmation that you are correct xl18, the Coin Fan is still avilable in Japan with new packaging (have a picture of the packaging). Strange that they list it as discontinued on their website unless it means discontinued for markets outside Japan.
Cheers, John |

Thanks xl18. I posted the above before seeing your reply. I appreciate the info.

I wasn't sure if it was discontinued or not. I've seen the newer packaging so that's why I'm inquiring. By the looks of this, I would say that I going to be recieving the older English version. Still, I like the effect.

You can replace the plastic coin that comes with the fan with a U.S. quarter.
Just be very careful in doing so since you are dealing with a fragile paper prop. You can then use the fan to produce quarters for The Miser's Dream. I used the fan in this manner when I did birthday parties for kids when I was just a kid myself. It is a very nice prop. Enjoy it! |

EXCELLENT IDEA Peter! I Tried it with my 'spare' Coinfan (which is, by the way, still available in Japan!) with EURO 5 Cent coins and it does the job

Any one know where this fan can be acquired on the net? Seems to be a Japan local only product now?

It is still sold in Japan, in both a regular version (now using a 100 yen coin) and a Disney version.
