Hi:

Having no success with this query on the "Up In Smoke" forum so maybe this is the better area to ask.

Anyone know of any comprehensive references/encyclopedias of fire magic and or histories of it? Also, anyone know what was the first book to be devoted (almost?) entirely to fire magic?

Thanks for any assistance.

I'm a Houdini guy, so I can't help you out much. When I had a magic library, the only book I had on fire magic was by Clettus Musson(?) called "Fire Magic".

I would also look in old books with pyrotechnics. They sometimes have magic and fire tricks.

Hi Kevin:

You're too modest. Your Houdini site and materials are some of the finest around. How good and important to have dedicated scholars such as you.

I have Musson and it's a real help. Your suggestion about early pyrotechnics is a fine one and I will indeed follow up on it.

Thanks much and best,

gary

Thanks for the kind words. I appreciate it.

As I remember it, there is a set of books by Potter(Jack?). In this set, he tried to list every trick and which book it appeared. It was some undertaking. He died before it was completed, but he did publish it up to the letter M or N.

It will tell you where to find magic tricks that used fire that was mentioned in a magic book. Up to the mid 1970's and back to the 1600's.

This is how I built my magic library.

That sounds like a great resource, Kevin. I hope I can track it down. If you remember any more details on this, please let me know.

Thanks!
