Hey I'm reasonably new to magic and only joined this site today but I was just wondering if anyone knows how quick changing is done? I wasn't sure where to post this due to the mass of forums on here so forgive me if I posted in the wrong place. I posted it here because the forum description says "here is the place to seek advice and ask questions."
The internet says its based on clothing made of velcro and things like that but I've seen quick change acts where glitters been thrown over the woman and shes instantly changed with no clothes dropped on the floor. I'm usually focused on card and mentalism magic but this just caught my eye and has been bugging me since. |

Hi Tom!
Let me be the first to welcome you to The Magic Café! You came to exactly the right place. There are MANY here, who would be glad to steer you in the right direction. There are many books and a DVD or two on quick-change. And with that, let me step aside, and let those "in the know" about this take it from here... Best in Magic to ya!! Doug C. |

We're not here just to give away secrets to those who are just curious about how certain things are done. However, since you do card magic, you might consider adding a quick-change necktie to your act. The idea is that after failing to find a chosen card you wipe your hand down your necktie and it changes into a pattern that has the selected card on it.

Henry Evans has a wonderful effect where two chosen cards end up impaled on your tie...

In Rice's Encyclopedia of Silk Magic, Volume 2, you'll find Mrs. Val H. Seewald's version of the Color Changing Necktie described, but you'll have to make it (or have it made) yourself.
Also, in my Dollar Store Magic section, Book 2, under Color Change Silk Gimmicks, the last item in that e-Book is a different method of making a Color Change Neck Tie using a couple of contrasting color Dollar Store Neckties. If one of the ties is a silk necktie from Michael's Arts and Crafts, you can get a kit to paint on silk to decorate it with a playing card of your choice. Or, you could just use a Sharpie pen and draw a card on one of the ties.

There is a wonderful book called Quick Change
Lex Schoppi Magic and FX Costumes One item I like leaves you with a regular tie around your neck...and the idea...very simple.... You could even loosen or take the tie off.. me I just adjust it to show that it is just a tie...as it is... Thought about his bow ties...but so far haven't got them, as I don't wear bow ties as often as I used to. Actually don't even wear my vest which used to be one of my trademark costumes. Having a mother in law that is a wonderful lady and seamstress....priceless....

ANd people stil probably wont just tell you outright. Though they may be a bit more forthcoming then in public
Keep in mind that, while there are books you can get and read to learn the principles, the real artists often mix in ideas that ar their very own

Quick change by Lex Schoppi is a fab book, very well researched much much better the Sos and Victoria book which is a total waste of money... the Japanese the DVD is good too but it is not my favourite method or the methods the real pros use as far as I am aware.
