Just picked up Pocket Money from Wayne Dobson.
Crazy, I NEVER buy magic tricks, I spend my magic money on books, sometimes DVD's. I have cases full of gaff coins etc. However, I met with Wayne at Magic in the Rockies and he showed me this. I picked up six coins he had laid out on the table, again I PICKED THEM UP. They were from 6 different countries. He had me put them in my pocket. He started naming the countries, and asked me to take them out as he did. I was successful finding each, but suddenly I realized, one had vanished, the American Quarter was gone! FROM MY POCKET! It totally caught me off guard! There's nothing like getting fooled when you become hard to fool! The thing about it is that THE SPECTATOR picks up the coins! I had to buy it, and have used it several times in the past few days. This is fun to do! and Freaks people out! Get this one! anyone else have it? comments? |

The demo video ranks the worst I have ever seen. I wasted 28 seconds of my life. |

Like Cosmo, I bought this after seeing Wayne perform this at the Sam Convention in Atlanta.
I really liked the idea of using international coins. It's a clever idea that does the work and is more about presentation than skill. You get all the nesscesary coins. If you wanted, you could change out some for ones from other countries as I've done. This is easy to carry around and can be done anywhere. I think it would work best for a small group or one on one.

This is a fab trick that I've had for a few months now.
Another classic from Wayne. Easy to perform and totally puzzling. Have had much fun using this one. I added something to the gimmick to make it even more deceptive. Not cheap, but then again nothing quality ever is. |

45 pounds? Good gosh buy a scotch and soda coin trick. Same effect in the spectators eyes.

I've seen the effect and it's good, and can see paying $55 but not $85, imo. Xiqual is sorta right in that utilizing a Scotch and Soda can produce the same effect, just go to your local coin dealer and pick up some coins from other countries. But if one doesn't want to do that, Pocket Money fits the bill perfectly

What video Pegasus??? All I saw was a slide show with one slide and David Lee Roth sample. There was a stiff warning however, no one is to borrow or copy it or else.

You couldn't do this with a copper/silver coin.
It's the gimmicked coin you get with it, that makes it so expensive.

It's a shame but we get ripped off badly here in the UK compared to the US (not just magic). If it wasn't for the shipping costs I would buy all my magic from over the pond. |

I got this a few weeks ago and would like to tell you what I think of this...........King Brilliant!
OK let me break it down as to why I think this is a killer effect. The props, I received five (6 ;-)) different coins of different sizes from different countries, one of them is gimmicked in a way which we're all familiar with, except that it works better due to the m##### being very strong, this enables you to leave "the coin" with the audience and they will find nowt! The routine, this is a killer.....You openly place/spread the 5 coins onto a spectator's open palm, you stand back and ask them to close their hand around the coins and drop them into their pocket (they see all of the coins right up to the very last second). You now start to make a couple verbal statements/predictions, the first, you ask them to quickly reach into their pocket and remove any two coins but to keep the coins hidden from view, you make a statement/prediction and when they open their hand your prediction is 100% spot on. You now repeat this and again you predict exactly which two coins they will remove, and remember this point, you never see them until they open their hand....they themselves don't even have a clue as to which two coins they hold until they open their hand! Just think for a moment like a non magician, you could end the effect there and then at this point and you've probably duplicated similar mentalism effects which use electronics and the like!! You're still not done, unbeknown to the assisting spectator he or she will still believe they have one more coin in their pocket, but due to the gimmick and the presentation their pocket is empty! Just think of all the ways you can finish this, you could go down the mentalism route, make it into a strong magic effect, a pseudo pickpocketing effect, you could go to reach into the spectator's pocket yourself but stop just short, and when they remove the last coin it could be bent etc etc! I hope people here will look beyond the props, too many reviews these days are just so negative and only concentrate on the props, go out there and DO IT and try the stuff before reviewing it (this is to all you reviewers out there who can't see beyond their nose!!) Rant over Seriously, this really is brilliant, the gimmick will withstand close examination, but if you follow the above routine it never will be examined, but for the nervous performer you have nothing to worry about. I give this my highest recommendation, the props are well made, the routine is brilliantly thought out, and while some may find the price a little high you are getting something which can be played in so many ways, either magic, pickpocketing or mentalism, in my opinion this is a real bargain. Just one more thing, I have fired this in action many times and have a very quick reset (almost instant) this is something I'm sure you can work out yourselves, it's not rocket science. Gary Jones. PS. you can also spread the coins out on the table and ask the spectator to scoop the coins up and place them into their pocket, I just prefer the palm method. PPS. You could write your predictions onto your business card, if doing a TV/radio show you could have your predictions inside a sealed envelope, well you get the idea. All of this is possible because Wayne Dobson saw beyond a basic gimmick and took it somewhere different!!

Someone mentioned above that a Scotch and Soda would work with this, do so at your peril (the non m type)! This coin was specially made for this effect, it works 100% of the time due to something S and S doesn't have, if you're getting the spectators to do what they have to do you want to make sure nothing can go wrong, this won't go wrong!
Gary.
