PROTECTING YOUR ACCOUNT

Hello everyone,

As much as we have a great community of magicians helping magicians here on the Café, we are also part of the world wide web.

That being the case, every now and then some scumbag comes along and tries his best to spoil the party for everyone else.

In this particular case we had an unknown individual (all we know is he is from the country of Hungary) join under several usernames yesterday (using fake email accounts naturally) who then attempted to steal information from various members using our private message system.

I'm not going to get into details, but suffice to say he sent PM's to numerous members. These PM's contained a special code to help him learn passwords and such.

It took our tech team some time to sort this all out - but we have. Smile

That being the case, any Café member who has received a private message from a member using one of the following usernames: magivalerx,
magivaler or accoon is advised to not open the PM - just delete it. Then, immediately change your password.

If you are not sure, change your password anyway just to be on the safe side. Smile

There is a couple different ways you can change your password;

1) Go to the upper right hand corner of your Café screen and click on the Edit Profile link, it is there that you can change your password.

2) The second method is to simply log-out, and then use the Lost Password function.

IMPORTANT: Before using either of the methods listed above, be especially certain that your email address is current! Otherwise any new password information may not reach you. Smile

Just so you know, while we have no way of tracking down the culprit, we have of course banned the individual responsible.

Having said all of that, you can see why it is very important to never give your information out and to report any type of suspicious activity to management asap!

I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused anyone but things like this are bound to happen from time to time. Its just the nature of the Internet folks.

Thanks for your time and should you have any further questions on this or any other technical matter, please post your concerns Here!. Smile
