My website was just awarded A Golden Web Award for 2003-2004. I was just wondering how credible are things like web awards?
I applied to be reviewed for the award after I saw other recipients' web sites, so I figure its pretty good. However, today, when I got the email notifying me that I won, it kinda appeared like a scam to me. Now, I don't have to pay anything for winning the award, but their introductory email is filled with offers for me to buy things like Golden Web Award Certificates, or even to pay to gain a membership card and what-not. I can place a winner's banner on my site for free, but I can also pay 39.95 to become a member and get listed in their "Who's Who" area. Sounds kinda fishy to me. Are these things for real, or is it just another money-making scheme? |

Anything on the internet is a scam.
That being said, heh, if it is worth it to you to get listed in their who's who, then pay it, but if you don't want to blow 40 bucks on getting a link somewhere, don't. |
