So, I just wanted to post here so that folks interested in Toosh wouldn't have to wade through 8 or so pages on the Toosh thread in Latest and Greatest. Long story short, go out and buy this thing. This gets my vote for release of the year nominations.
Long Story: At first after watching the demo video all that was on my mind was "How the heck did the signed card end up beneath the spectator's bum?!?" which later got my gears working and figuring out how to replicate the effect. I came up with two main handlings for the effect while I awaited the arrival of the actual DVD. The DVD arrived yesterday and I went straight into it to see how close I was on the handlings I had thought up. I must say, Steve Hayne's handling and construction of the gimmick is pretty much perfect. My versions of it were pretty large steps backwards from his Toosh. I really wouldn't change a thing about the construction and handling of the gimmick. After watching the DVD... I went to bed This morning I quickly constructed the gimmick on the way out of the house. I didn't make it as perfectly as I would have liked but the gimmick I made took me literally 2 minutes. A perfect one would have taken no more than 5 minutes to construct and that's being on the slow and meticulous side of things. I'll make a perfect one tonight (and not even the full gimmick, I just need to make half of the gimmick, this shall take most probably 2 minutes tonight). So, aside from the ridiculously easy construction of the gimmick, how's the effect? Well, with my quickly made gimmick, I've performed it around the office all morning for a total of 6 times thus far. I used it for signed card under seat, under computer mouse, under mouse pad, in purse, and signed card through office glass sliding door. It's unfair how much impact this thing makes with pretty much ZERO sleight of hand. It's truly as easy as doing nothing more than pointing at wherever you've loaded the card and going "Look!" and then having the person jump up and down going bananas. ***Note: Please do not literally put the card somewhere, point at it and go "Look!" You will most probably get looks of confusion. You still have to play out a routine for the sake of context *** OK, now we know that this thing plays extremely well with the audience yet requires practically no effort on your part (it's practically as easy as a Svengali deck, if you can not perform even the most basic of effects with a Svengali deck, I suggest that you take on another hobby and if this is a career, you should probably find another one, just saying). Another huge benefit of Toosh is that you can use business cards for it. The fact that you end up leaving your spectator with TWO personalized business cards which they will most probably keep is pure gold. You can of course make up the gimmick using blank business card stock or blank playing cards (or other objects like a matchbook as Steve Haynes has suggested in the Latest & Greatest or even drink coasters like another Café member had mentioned in the Latest & Greatest) and have just as much impact but a word to the wise, if you have business cards, capitalize on Toosh by using them for this as it will help tremendously with getting your name and contact information out there. Another point to note is that this thing packs small and flat as well as having an instant reset. My question now is, why are you still reading this? Go and pick one up! |

Thanks for taking the time to write up such an in-depth review! It sounds like an effect that would actually be FUN to perform!

This is a BRILLIANT EFFECT! Yes, it's so good that I have to capitalize both words.
I still haven't tried it out yet, since I don't have any business card. |

Thanks Ken Lam,
So glad you like it. Many businesses will give you business cards,so if you do that for say a resturant,it would be a good way to get your foot in the door and if people start showing up with the cards they signed, you have a huge selling point for them to hire you! That may not be your cup of tea,but if it is,then there ya go! Of course if you already perform in resturants, they would love to see you doing something that is promoting them and good job security for the performer as well. Just a couple thoughts to who it may apply. All good things, Steve |

Now don't quote me, but from what I have read online and in the reviews I think I can safely deduce MAGIC!
Looking forward to it!
Your choices in life can be compared to watching a magic trick: You can continue to believe the illusion in front of you, find the intrigue and desire to learn more, or quit paying attention the moment you feel deceived.

Nah, magic as we know doesn't really exist. This is complete witchcraft and satanism as there just doesn't seem to be a method to all the madness.

Okay, this is VERY cool. You're so far ahead of the spectator that you are in another time zone.
I'm going to have to modify my business cads a bit but it was time to change them anyway (our logo changed). Hmm.... now there is an interesting idea.... if I did two sets of cards, one with the logo and one with something else, the logo could actually be the symbol. I need to think about that one a bit... nice thing about that is that it focuses the illusion on our logo It also means my crappy penmanship wont be an issue..

Talking about symbols, the No Smoking signs can be made to work with this. I have no idea what the effect would be but there's so many directions to go with that one. Maybe combine it with Rorrinson's Smoke? I think there may be something there but this would need to be worked out. Idea isn't wholly mine's though. I was looking at my No Smoking lighter from the Jean Luc effect with the lighters and thought that would be an interesting effect with Toosh. Maybe combine it with Smoke and use matchbooks instead of cards?

Thanks man! The logo idea is great and and I'm sure many will use it in that form, that work or perform for anothers business,or their own, like you mentioned. kissdadookie Interesting idea with the matchbook,as it would fit in with the smoke theme. |

So, I tried my logo version of Toosh last night on my wife and it floored her.
This is what our cards look like. I do TOOSH by drawing an X over the logo on one of two cards. Worked GREAT! Click here to view attached image.

No, centering is not necessary for the effect to work or to make the hiding of the m... effective .
It can make handling a bit easier, but this works fine for me this way. I should add that doing this with my logo the way I do makes the handling a bit more futzy... those of you who have TOOSH should be able to figure out why... But in practice what 'futzing' I need to do happens on so strong a downbeat that its a non-issue.

I hope you love it. I definitely do.
One word of advice. It may seem a bit complex when you're first learning steve's performance from the DVD, but ti flows very naturally once you actually try it. The trick is just knowing which card you have the spectator sign first and from there it all just flows smoothly and naturally til the end. Anyway that was my experience.

Yep,Toosh is very sneaky and even the wife will keep running in to dead ends. I think that's why it works so well,is that it's very direct and before a spectator can get started on a solution the mind hits one brick wall after another. When the only solution they can come up with,is that's IMPOSSIBLE!,then the beautiful spirit of mystery is shinning bright,as back tracking will just make the mystery grow even deeper. Saying all that,it is very late,so I will end with a very humble thanks to all,for your support,as well as my ramblings! Best to all, Steve |
