Deland Dollar Deck...They were maked a dozen ways and stripped.
Paper quality was also poor. believe it or not, I saw some college kids playing poker with them....long story...lucky the guy who rung in the deck survived.... I saw them and laughed to myself.

I find the marking system to be extremely deceptive, yet at the same time very easy to read. I know, this sounds a bit like a contradiction in terms, but the markings are worked into the art-work on the back very cleverly - and it is my experience that there is nothing less interesting about cards for a layman than the back-design, anyway. |

Here is a link to a new ebook from Pete McCabe on his method of marking cards and 20 tricks. Looks interesting. Have ordered a copy and will post a review.

I'm not an expert in marked decks but I love UMD, Boris Wild system is quite good too. In fact I really like Boris Wild work in MD, IMO his DVDs are a must have.

The David Blaine new deck is a real steal. I've already stocked up on them. Cheapest marked deck on the market -- and the markings are so obvious that they're hidden. My fear is that these decks will go out of print (or whatever the term is for card decks) and they'll no longer be made.

Agree 110% Boinko - The Blaine marked decks scream quality, and the price is ridiculously low. I love 'em.
I just got the Sven deck too today - great.

I also just purchased the Pete McCabe PDF above. What a great PDF! Highly recommended. A steal at $20.
It's great to have the Blaine decks (pre-Marked and cheap) but the ability to mark red/blue bike decks is great, too -- especially since Pete's marks are (IMHO) genius. The level of detail in the PDF about getting the marks absolutely perfect is ridiculous (in a good way!) -- and the effects are some of the strongest MD deck effects I've come across. |

I second Jeff Dial's suggestion. The Farmarx deck is easy to make and even easier to read - flies past the usual specs.

Two things: the Blaine deck box is not exactly friendly for pulling out in front of a spec....are the cards red or blue allowing them to be put into a separate box?
secondly, I am looking to mark just a few cards in a deck for some new effects I'm learning. have found that the red sharpie doesn't glare as much under the lights are the blue sharpie. are there better ways to mark a deck than this? thanks for the help!

Red or blue sharpie marker does work if your audience is not looking for marks. Some people also use a razor.
These techniques are called "Block-out" or "Cut-out" work and are easily detected. There are many trade offs regarding marked cards such as: 1) paper cards 2) Plastic cards 3) color of cards 4) Do cards need to be read close up 5) Do cards have to be read from a distance 6) How good is your vision ? (ie. Do you need glasses) 7) etc. Borris Wild is an example of "cut-out" work because the marks are white against a colored background. "Block-out" work is a dark mark like a sharpie.

Expertmagician, FBNC thanks for the reply. I've actually purchased the Michael Blaine deck and will work on torturing my own deck to meet specific needs.

Oops! saysold1, I stand corrected. it was a busy day at the office and I was posting in haste...or is it posthaste? (i've been studying Michael Vincent routines a lot lately).
at any rate, the david blaine deck looks like fun as long as you don't over do it.

From what I understand, TL's system is using an add-on on each card. Is this correct? In Penguin's website, there's Lesley's rub-on marking system.
How about Boris Wild? I saw on one of the dealer's website about Boris Wild, and it's only an instructional DVD. It means we have to mark it by ourselves? As for UMD, I attended a lecture last week and one of the participant brought his UMD along and it was nice. The markings are subtle and printed so there is no worry if the spectator would rub on it and accidentally find it. However, I just need more info before I decide which one I should get. All help is highly appreciated.

What kind of mark? An add-on stickers or printed?
Some people said that using TL's system it will require us to be careful with the lighting and angling.

Re: "What kind of mark?"
It's printed. You can do your own, but people with older eyes / weaker backs (like me) will probably appreciate buying pre-made ones. |

On the Pete McCabe Marking system:
I'm familiar with most of the marking systems already mentioned and own or have constructed quite a few of them. But how good is the colour match using the red or blue sharpies? Is the discrepancy too obvious? |
