Thankyou Mentalist Sam,
Now the question of how many effects are workable for close up, platform and stage. Just exactly what is there to learn to become a master at equivogue? Any ideas tossed about for individual presentations so that everyone is not a copy of Max Maven? Any little expert twiks? (Can't find it in the dictionary. If you cannot spell twiks correctly how are you supposed to look it up?) Just exactly what is Mentalist Sanctum? Are there specific restrictions for registration? How do I get to read their review? Genii's review looks like commercial puff to me. Am I mistaken? How many effects are there? 24 as advertised by someone? 24 equivogue effects? Omphaloskepsis? What is that? Can't find that one in my dictionary either. |

Tweaks is the correct spelling. Omphaloskepsis-Ah, Now I know what it means. Interesting term. It seems odd that I cannot edit my previous message. Must be a time limit...Anymore response and answers?

On SOUTH PARK, "Tweak" is an over-caffeinated, ADD-crazed character. I felt it appropriate to point that out for some reason.

Dear upset magi,
It took me just under three minutes of logical thinking to arrive at the (most probable) explanation of handout. That is not a boast. You should enjoy the fact there is an out and that you have been fooled by the most simple of them. Occam's razor and Holmesian deduction are great gifts to mystery solvers. Now to watch the rest of this DVD... |

"Actually, any half-decent dictionary gives the correct (three-syllable) pronunciation: ek-wǐ-voke.
There's no acute accent over the first letter, so it's not "ache". But magicians like to believe that it's a special "magic" word (along with "mnemonic", which most of them pronounce incorrectly as well), so just use their dictionaries for book tests." magic is a sufficiently established field that it can legitimately coin its own pronunciations, leading to their incorporation in future editions of half-decent dictionaries, and the really good ones, too. although that removes the delight of those who like to issue corrections as if language and usage rules were immutable, it achieves far greater utility in allowing for distinctions that align particular usages with particular fields. there will always be split infinitives or the occasional use of "irregardless" to be pedantic about, and without proscribing those useful distinctions. |

wow; I really admire you. what if I told you it took me two minutes, and also didn't offer the (most probable) explanation? |

I enjoyed this dvd.
I think anytime one can listen to one of the true greats like Max Maven, much can be learned. |

I really enjoyed this DVD and learned a lot from it. However, I think it was worth the price just to watch Max and Eugene interact.

I only recently picked this up, and although I am a newcomer to "mentalism", I am satisfied with this DVD. After watching it once, I immediately added "Cointext" to my performance repertoire (since I already had the special coin needed for the effect, and I never had an actual use for it!), and it has gotten very good reactions. Now I need to watch it several more times to see what else would be a good fit for me!

Wasn't too much impressed with this DVD. The only effect that was really strong was Handout and it wasn't explained! I wanted to see how he handle the other option (which is much worse for his premise) but he didn't. And don't tell me you can figure this out from watching the other effects. All the other effects were too small for my taste, nothing I can use. As a rule I think Max is working too small on his DVDs. He knows how to perform for 500 people and it doesn't show in all of his DVDs.

...just finished watching this...
I feel it was worth my while, as it got me thinking again about a bunch of things. WRT to "Handout" - yes, lovely routine. Pity he didn't explain it in detail. (I know, many people have their opinions why he didn't tip it...etc..) I agree with Nimrod - many of the routine are indeed close-up effects...would be nice to have seen some stage items. Thanks Max - your creative input for Magic is well received. |
