The reset is instant. I have received several messages and phone calls about this and I think I should fill people in on the gimmick. The switchblade gimmick is a card gimmick that allows you to perform many different card effect. It does NOT use Rough and Smooth, elastic threads, sticky stuff, no flaps, no double backers, no double facers. This is a completely different kind of card gimmick than what is on the market. Those that have the gimmick know why it's called the switchblade.

Over the years I have incorporated the gimmick into numerous routines. On the video I perform a bunch of stuff, including the new version of that old 3 card trick AND my ghostly presentation of "The Homing Card" AND a full, original, "Three Card Monte" complete with a melt-through visual change, transpositions, a color changing back, and a complete change of the money card... all using the "Switchblade" gimmick! The reset of the gimmick is done with a casual, natural action right in front of the spectators. Watch the demo again and you'll see that it's NOT that old 3 card trick, although you can certainly use it to do a modern, visually clean version of it. --Dan Harlan |

Is this anything like "The Shark", or is this even better?

Well I will try it, as I can say the old effect I was using got great reactions, I just hope that the card can be given away in the end, and my old worn out version , you could not hand out the two remaining cards, but that was never an issue.

You can hand out the middle card but you cannot hand out the other two cards as one of them is the gimmick. I just got it today but I'm still not at all sure about it as it will take some time to smoothly do it without looking as if your fidgeting about with something. I can't say more than that for fear of any disclosure. As I mentioned in a previous post here that I got the download four days ago. It looked to me as if it would take some practice to do "something" smoothly, and now that I have the gimmick I was right in my assumption. Just something about this that doesn't feel right or natural to me (hard to explain) but it could very well be me. As I said I just received it and haven't messed about with it enough yet to give an honest appraisal.

I agree not like the shark principle, this gimmick will not wear as easy as the shark gimmick nor do you have to worry about it becoming weak after multiple uses. This gimmick is defiantly a pro item that even hobbyists will love and a work horse at that.
No one said it would be easy, or did they?

Can you use Switchblade to change a card to a spectator's signed card like Don't Blink?

Do you have to start with them pre-spread or can you spread them from a closed packet?
I am getting so tired of slitting the throats of people who say that I am a violent psychopath.

I had to know,so I purchased it and this is an exact copy of another effect, just as I said before and no credit has been given, I just wasted over $30.00 and I was told in a PM it was not the same, if only I could think of the original name, very disappointing.
I wish Harry Murphy or Bill Palmer were here, they would know more , these 2 are amongst the most knowledgeable guys I have ever seen. |

Dave--
Well, I guess it's not a very Merry Christmas for me then is it? I'm concerned. Switchblade is original with me. I've never seen anything like it. I did have a limited release of it about ten years ago, so maybe that is what you're thinking about. My original design was not as clean as the current design, so if you have the original you can check to see if there is an exposed disc on the back of the gimmicked card. I've eliminated that and improved the quality of the construction, plus I included on the video the routines I've developed using Switchblade. I'm sorry if my work falls short of your expectations. I'm just trying to make a quality prop that I've used for years available to other performers. I hope other people find it as useful and fun as I have. --Dan Harlan |

Dan, Let me be clear, I think the basic effect is very strong and the method ingenious, and perhaps the original I have may be yours, but it is much older than 10 years, mine have held up this long but are showing signs of age and wear, I was hoping yours was a much improved version and may be something new, I would be glad to mail you one of mine to take a look at, I'm sure you would be able to tell if it is yours or not, there is a tiny subtly that you point out on you video that this one also has, this could be a tell tale sign.

Dave--
I'll PM you with my address so I can take a look at one of the older ones. I've never heard of anyone else ever trying to make one of these, so I'm curious to see what you have. Of course, I'll return it as soon as I've had a good look at it. Thanks! --Dan Harlan |

I should also add that Dan provides many routines that are very new and well worth having, one of them is the reverse thinking of the gimick, very clever . As I said before, I really love this and all it can do, and it fits in your shirt pocket, talk about saving valuable pocket space.

I agree the effects on the DVD are great but its the unlimited possibilities that you have with this gimmick that makes it great. Dave I would love to try the business card idea combined with a biddle type effect.

Looks good.
I can see similarities to Peter Nardi's "Entrapment Gold", so I don't know whether that was what Dave had in mind? Good luck with it Dan. |

I have been making a trick called "Perfect Monte" for over 40 years. It retails for $12. "Switch Blade" which reently came out by Dan harlan and is being distributed by Murphys Magic is the same trick as my "Perfect Monte". "Perfect Monte" is sold by Hank Lee, Fantasma, Daytona Magic, Tannens etc.
Dan called me today in good faith and told me he did not realize it was the same as my "Perfect Monte". He said he has 1000 made up and asked if we could make some arrangement so that he may sell the 1000 he has in stock and then discontinue the item. Hopefully he and I will get together to come to some kind of mutual agreement. Jerry Somerdin |
