At the risk of sounding ignorant, how does everybody find such great things on eBay. Everytime I do a magic search, I end up with thousands of pages, and get bored after twenty pages of "David Blaine Magic Tricks" listings. Help. Google seems to find everything else I've needed on the web, but eBay has me scratching my head, and biting chunks outta quarters. Thanks,
Nando

Nando,
Browse to find the magic catagory, then do a search within that single catagory. |

Nando,
If you promise NEVER to bid against me, I'll tell you...<S> OK, go here: http://listings.ebay.com/pool1/listings/......from=R11 and when there, save it to your favorites. That is the main magic catetgory on eBay. The next trick, is if you are looking for something highly specific, e.g. something made by MIKAME, you can search just for that item all across eBAY with the search feature. OTOH, if you are looking for cups for the cups and balls, you better confine your search to the magic category as you will find tons of cups of varying quality, age, aesthetic value and composition for sale if you search all of eBay. See also my tips and those of others on bidding in a separate message thread in this category. Good luck, tr |

Thanks for the info Thimblerig. I also have the same problem. Does this filter out all of the Magic Game cards?

Yes, that section pertains to our kind of magic only. That's the way to go. And yes, I got tired of seeing Magic: The Gathering and items like DAVID BLAINE LOT #1,458 as well.

Unfortunately it doesn't always work because the MTG folks aren't too particular where they post their stuff...from time to time I've also seen other non-magical items including pottery and crafts stuck in there because some seller didn't know what they were doing. For the most part that link should work quite well until eBay re-organizes again.
It is still a real pain that there are several magic dealers who post the same stuff (crap, imho) every week and you have to wade through it. If I wanted stock dealer items I'd go to their website. Before the dealers cluttered it up you could sift through pretty quickly looking for collectibles and rare used items, books and so forth. Sometimes one dealer from Great Britain loads it up with 3-4 pages of "stuff." You'd have to be nuts to buy non-collectible dealer items from Great Britain when you can get them locally. There used to be another category for magic under hobbies which didn't have a lot and I kind of hoped that the dealers would go THERE and leave the collectibles separate, but I think it never caught on and now I can't find that category any more. Well, thanks Mike M and thimblerig,
I'm now browesing like a regular, at least a regular with a 52k modem. You won't have to worry about me out bidding anyone for awhile, because we're currently house shopping, and "The Boss" has put a hold on all magic purchases. I'm jonesing bad, Nando

The above link is to USA ebay. There's also the UK one: ebay.co.uk
There the accepted place to put any magician stuff whether it be props, books, videos or whatever is collectables/memorabilia/magic. Unfortunately it is plagued by trashy Lord of the Rings items but if you can wade through them you can find some magic gems for sale. david

One way I sort out the garbage from the unique stuff is to search "rare" and "vintage" under the Magic category. Also save as favorites the better sellers such as Flinner@concentric.net and Magicinvestments and Magiquarian to name just a few.

Good ideas, Count. I do the same thing, but as you probably already know, "rare" and "vintage" and "Scarce" are in the eye of the beholder. It is remarkable how unethical people can be concerning "rare" items...which are still available from dealers at less than the starting bid on eBay, or available from book dealers (check http://www.bookfinder.com).
I have found several items of interest to me by searching for the manufacturer by name or the item by name. Of course then you run into the problem of seller spelling errors, e.g. "Makame" instead of "Mikame." But I guess that keeps the hunt interesting. Cordially, tr |
