Hello Kosmo,

I would be interested in hearing about you and Cellini.
How, why and where did you meet?

(Memories, lessons, legacies?)

All the best,

Um, well I met Jim in New Orleans...I had been reading about him and how great he was so I searched for him and 6 months later got a message from Doug Conn that he was in The Big Easy. So I wanted to find out if there was any video of him working and there wasn't so I convinced Jim to let me shoot his show. Jim was in his mid 50's at the time but hadn't worked in several years because of health issues.

So I got a friend who was a video guy and we drove from NY down and met Doug (great guy) and Cellini.

When we entered Doug's magic shop I went over to the counter and started talking and noticed a little man sitting in the corner. After about maybe 5 minutes the little guy in the corner started talking and the whole room went silent. It was Cellini. It was amazing the control he had over the room. He spoke so softly but carried a big stick.

That night we walked around the French Quarter and got to know each other and the next day we went out and Cellini did 2 shows. People just gathered around, he didn't have to do anything. It was like he had this power over everyone, Truly amazing to witness. After that day Jim and I became great friends.

Cellini was one of the greats. Not just as a street guy but as a magician. He loved magic more than anyone I have ever met and he knew everything. He read books and new all the old guys. He performed magic with more grace than anyone I have ever seen. I was so honored to be his friend. I spent 5 years working with Jim. Just a blessed experience. Jim was the best, so giving.....

I tell people all the time that the greatest gift I have ever been given other than my mom, my wife and kids and brothers and sisters is that little magic show that has taken me around the world and allowed me to live this life. Cellini taught me so much and really was a driving force in making that show what it is and I'm so grateful for him.

I can watch Cellini work a TT and silk for hours. He was definitely a master of his craft, I really wish I could have met him. It really was amazing what you did Koz, by putting his work on DVD. I constantly watch that set, and really think its one of the best DVD sets ever released. THANK YOU!!

Thanks Kozmo,
I am always happy to hear about Cellini.

What caused your interest in Street Magic?

I have another question, some have good days and bad days, what have been your happiest and also lowest days street performing?

Thanks for taking the time to write here.
All the best,
Kozmo

There just weren't many low days....and to be honest, The streets is my favorite thing to do so everyday has been pretty darn good...not the answer you were looking for.

One thing I will say.....there was a time after 10 years of working almost everyday.....30,000 shows I got burnt....and I quit....for about 6 months.
The I started to get the urge and so I went back out and went to work and I was better than ever because I loved it again.
