I know you all have been awaiting the long overdue "hey-this-is-me" post here at The Magic Café's "Our New Arrivals" section.
Well, hey, this is me. I'm Dave Robison; Part-time stand-up Comedian and Ventriloquist from Mobile(that's pronounced, MOE-beele, Alabama. I started talking to myself at the age of ten, and knew trouble was going to follow me from there on out. My parents bought me a Juro ventriloquist doll from the JCPenney's catalog for Christmas and I began my trek to stardom. By the time I was 16; I was pretty popular in my small hometown of Caledonia, Mississippi and the surrounding area, entertaining at birthday parties, banquets, and civic functions. Maher Ventriloquist Studios even published a book of ventriloquist routines that I wrote at that tender age of 16. I dabbled in magic as well, ordering all manner of self working illusions and gimmicks from Tannen's, back when they had a 400 page hardback catalog.(I was very impressed by flash paper and appearing canes) and once performed a very bad levitation of my ventriloquist dummy. Local press coverage was the norm for me as a teenager, and I dreamed of the day of expanding my local celebrity-hood to nation-wide status. Dreams of a stand up comedy career were put on hold with an early marriage, early kids, and early debt, along with trading a multitude of jobs with periods of unemployment. I finally settled in to becoming an industrial video producer and Public Relations professional. Fast forward to 2002 and a move to Mobile, Alabama I was bitten by the comedy bug once again, and languished in procrastination and envy of others living their dream for several more years. Since late in 2008, I have been performing sporadic stand-up comedy across the Southeast. My interest in magic and ventriloquism is still high and I still practice with my original Finis Robinson(no relation) figure of the last 30 years, Skyler Leglantier. I still have a fascination with flash paper and appearing canes. Here at the Café, I'm hanging out at "Tricky Business" "Sidewalk Shuffle" and "I'm A Real Boy". I can also be found on the "Interwebs" at Facebook.com/DaveRobison and will be reviving my blog, On The Road With Dave in the coming months. That should be more than you'd ever want to know about me. Dave

Welcome DaveRobison,
You're very brave to do the Stand-Up comedy thing. Your skills in producing video and public relations sound like they would really help your performing career. See you in Tricky Business. -Mary Mowder |

Nice to have you here, Dave. Well written wonderful introduction.
Funny: the effect that got me into magic in the first place -- way back in the 80`s was the Invisible Deck. It`s still my favorite to perform. Young passions still bring fire to old hearts, huh... David

Wel come Dave Robinson,
I would like to see a photo or two of Finis' work. I communicated with him during the last two years of his life, the passing of his wife left him so lonely. I suspect his daughter is gone by now too. Finis. I've been using my Turner figure since 1954. Love those old dummies, that's how they were supposed to look. Then along came Charlie McCarthy and the cheeky boy became the rage. See ya around here. Doc Terry Robinson

Thanks for the welcome comments.
Dr Solar, I'm attaching a photo of Skyler for your viewing. After 30 years he works like he was brand new. Finis did a re-paint of him a few years before his death. Stop by the "I'm a real boy" category every now and then. Dave Click here to view attached image.

Yes, Dave, that's a real dummy. I like to call them as they are. Figure, familial, knee-pal, cute. I wish I had gotten one from him before he passed but by the time we were talking together via mail and phone, he said he put his tools away. I'll chance to meet up with you in the Café.

Hi Dave and welcome! The Café is an awesome place to meet new friends and learn much! Your intro is very interesting and it makes me wish Ohio wasn't so far from Alabama so I could see your show! Although I have several wonderful friends on here from your state and I have been blessed to actually meet some of them and see their work!
