The ID is a lot of fun, but how about some new ways to present it? I suspect it's much more versatile than we give it credit for.
Ideas? Thanks, landmark

Darwin Ortiz has a great handling using an ID and The Sy Stebbins Secret. I think it's in Scams & Fantasies.

"You see sir, I just got this new deck of cards, the only problem is that they're invisible. It figures, you go into a magic shop, buy some cards, and they are invisible!!! Well, maybe you can help me out. Here take the deck, take it out of the box... shuffle it up... now pick one card out of the deck and think of it. Are you thinking of it? Your not going to forget it on me are you now, sir? Okay, so shuffle the cards up one more time. And if you give me the deck I'll throw it into this box right here. The box was in full view the whole time, I didn't do any funny moves. Now name your card out loud so everybody knows it. The three of hearts? Are you sure? Do you want to change your mind? So you want to keep your mind? Okay. You can see that one card and one card only out of the whole deck is face down. Look at it...
That's the routine I use. Not sure if anybody else has seen it somewhere. I kind of just picked it up and also was told parts of it by other magicians. Hope this helps! Evan |

Steve Bedwell also has a very unusual routine with the Invisible Deck. I know it is on one of his vdieo tapes, but I cannot remember which.
I think the routine was called "Shake, Shuffle, and Twist" or something like that.

If I'm not mistaken, the ID started out as a mentalism effect.
I wonder how many people out there still use it as a mental routine. I'm one who does. Any others?

A presentational idea I use when performing to a large group is to have one person name a card.. the next person can then either change the value or the suit to come up with a new card... the next person does the same. After 5 or 6 people have changed the card you reveal your "prediction".
This method takes the heat off the deck as they tend to think there is a mathematical solution to arriving at the predicted card.

I use the ID in almost every corporate program, using it to stress the importance of shared vision.

Wow. There are enough invisible deck threads to weave something visible.
I just added to this one: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......4&22 cheers - El Lamo

I've seen a version where somebody shows the deck as mixed up cards front to back like a chaos. Then Put them back in the deck, do a pattern where you make them think of a card and then do it like all the cards are fixed except for the one thought of card.

Sorry I can't remember who posted this (I think it was Wravyn) The thread appeared under table hoppers & party strollers » »Invisible Deck some time around last March or April.
IMHO this is one of the most original ideas for the ID Iv'e seen. Quote: "Most magicians have someone pick a card from the deck, today, we are going to turn the tables... I get to pick a card" (remove and look at a card without showing the audience) "and I get to place it back into the deck anywhere" (at this time turn the deck face up and place the card into it face down) "I did that so it is easier to find by non magicians" (said with a wink and a smile). "You have a cell phone with probably what, 50, 100, maybe even 200 or more contacts? Do me a favor, call or text one of your friends that is not here with you and tell them that you are at (name of restaurant) and that the house magician (insert your name) is doing some great magic and you need their help... To name the first card that comes to their mind..." {have them explain what has happened with chosen card and lost in the deck so far} (while this is happening place the cards back into their box and place them into your pocket) Once their contact has named a card and they have shared it with you, remove the invisible deck..." Thanks again Wravyn. |
