I'm thinking to buy a new set of Linking Rings. I know Mikame's is an excellent one but I'm also considring a cheaper one (Klamm's has some good reviews). Any tips about them? It seems Klamm has a special key? Any detail? Thanx for helping. GN.

When it comes to linking rings it all boils down to money - you get what you pay for. I have a set of 12" Klamms and I'm very happy with them. I do not have their special ring. I would highly recommend Klamm as a "medium priced" ring.
Owen seems to be the way to go if cost is no consideration. There are also cheaper rings (Uday) and rings approaching Owen in price. Just depends on what you're looking for and how much you want to spend. Jim |

Thank you Jim. Owen seems to be sort of "golden standard" and considering the high price I must trust. On the other hand, Klamm is one of my choices, it's closer to "good quality at fair price". If someone else can help in giving further tips (on the material, kind of key and so on), I will greatly appreciate. Giuseppe.

Klamm rings are made out of steel and chrome plated the hidden welds are acceptable. The 8 ring sets come with standard key ring. His locking key is okay, it can be operated with one hand. I don't think it would be possible to constantly close and open the key ring, as strength in the fingers is required. They will last you a life time if you take care of them.

I wonder if RNTII will be making any rings soon. I heard somewhere Donnie was thinking of making rings. I would love to see them if he did.

OK, here's a question on the same path...
I'm looking for a high quality set of 8 INCH Linking Rings. Stainless or chromed steel. I need a custom set of 11 rings. Or, I'll buy two, standard 8-ring sets if needed. Any sources out there? Feel free to PM me. Thanks! |

There is only 4 Linking Ring Sources of the highest quality currently available. With this highest quality comes super high prices near $1000.00.
Owen Magic - Stainless Steel, hollow or solid core. Van Dokkum Joe Porper Proline but they only make 13" and 15". Levent purchased all the 8" rings Klamm had in stock for his instruction DVD he is working on. |

There's a wealth of information in the previous posts. Thanks to everyone. Buy the way, can I have more details on the Van Dokkum Linking Rings (in particular the special key they make)? Still thank You.
P.S.: I've a set of 8 ring (8" in diameter) from R'nT, which I purchased 4 or 5 years ago, before Donnie management. I don't know if they're the "original" RNT rings but they look (and sound) fine. |

I own several different sets of linking rings I use for different occasions, but I wouldn't mind having another set for my street shows that aren't ultra expensive and can take a battering. Unfortunately, all the cheaper ones I've looked at do show the welds to varying degrees, which I consider to be a problem. |

WingChun:
We would all like to help steer you in the right direction, so here is the important question: What is the most money you want to spend on a good set of linking rings? Once we get your answer, I think it will be easier to help you. Thank you. |

Oh....and WingChun, as a follow-up, I too purchased a set of RnT II solid stainless steel rings before the company changed hands, but mine are 12 inch rings, and extremely well made (not perfect.....but acceptable).....and they have the benefit (in my mind, at least) of being very, very heavy. Heavy rings when handed to a spectator assistant in my experience have the advantage of "proof of substance"...and make the spectator assistant's reactions that much stronger when the magic happens.
If your set is as well-made as mine is, trust me, you have a good set of linking rings that should last you a long time. Having said that, I have always used 12 inch rings (other than my Delben Linking Coathangers) when I perform, as they show up better on-stage. Many performers reccomend using a minimum of 10 inch rings for stage performances, but you may certainly have a right to a different opinion. Either way, the bucks you are willing to spend is the key factor in your decision, I think. |

Thank You so much, Rainboguy. I agrre with you: a solid, good weight linking ring set subliminally proves integrity. I used to perform on stage a version of Karton (the late Italian master magician Piero Pozzi) with a set 12" 9 rings, artigially machined for stainless still. Unfortunately, I can't find those rings (they rest in one of the many boxes which I used durung my previous relocations). I consder the RnT 8" I own of pretty good quality: they are perfect for my close-up/parlour performances. Recently, anyway, Harry Riser routine (in his book "Secrets of an Escamouter") is capturing my imagination. This is what landed me to search for new sets to accomplish it.

I have a set of Klamm rings I LITERALLY bought in 1980 that I still use. The chrome is mostly fine.. and I've done Whit Hayden's routine with them... probably 5,000 times.. maybe more.. they've been dropped on cement, carpet, asphalt... and whatever.. and I have to say I still LOVE them.
I won't need another set as long as I'm alive! |
