Hi Nathan,
Thanks for joining us here at the Café. one of the things that makes you so unique is the fact that everything you do is 100% creative and an expression of yourself. You do not do the same thing other magicians do but instead have reinvented yourself to constantly come up with different ideas that really have impact. Can you talk a bit about why you feel it is important to be a creative thinker in magic and how anyone can learn to start being more creative in what they do? Thanks. Kyle

Honestly, I wish I could spend 100% of my time working on creating magic. But considering that I am responsible for the ticket sales, I spend 95% of my time on the business side rather than creating magic. But, what I have learned is to take the creative approach that I use to create magic and use that creative approach to marketing and help sell tickets.
My original creative spark came from watching as much magic when I was a kid. I would watch hours and hours of magic at conventions and show until I hit the point that I was ready to create something different. Also, if you do something different than everyone else, i.e. the Microwave of Death, then you are the only person a show or company can book if they want that trick. As far as how I am creative, from watching movies and tv and listening to music, I'll get an idea and figure out how to try an idea and implement it into the show. |

I also like Topaz from Germany. Topaz is a guy with an unbelievable FISM act who now performs his own show. Another is Dani Larry from France. Dani has produced a ton of material as he has done many tv appearances on the same show, performing different material each time. There's another impressions guy who does a whole show of characters on paper that come to life. I can't remember his name, but I worked with him in Switzerland and he closed the show and completely killed. |

Thx for your reply!
I think the guy who does a whole show of characters on paper that come to life is Ennio Marchetto. some of my favorites include Scott & Muriel who perform some very funny illusions, Philippart & Anja who do illusions & Raphael who performs many acts in different characters, If you don't know them it is worth your time looking them up. |

There are a ton of great acts overseas that Americans don't get to see. It is worth it for magicians to spend some time on YouTube checking out these acts. -- |
