I quite simple do the $45.00 Card Trick. It's a Card Trick I know every Magician does though I saw it on the Malone "On The Loose" series, I've been performing it way before I saw it there. It's the one where a Card is Selected put in the deck and shuffled. You say you'll make it jump to the top. Do Magic move, you show the Top Card but what's this? It's not the card. You flip it back over put it between their palms, and with good acting and proper "Mumbo - Jumbo" while between their palms the CARD CHANGES into their card. I might to the Fingerprint Version of this, or with my own Deck Red Hott Mama. I'm telling you it's so easy to do, but people LITERALLY run, swear and carry on when that card changes in their hand. It's "Hands On" for the Spectator. Though a Mentalist and Hypnotist I've been a Magician 22 years and a Professional Busker 18 years same place, same time 18 Summers. A few Summers ago I did this ONE trick I got a $20.00 tip. His friend was like "Hey that's too much" ... etc. so I did it for him TOO, he gave me $20.00, then I did a couple more tricks and the first guy gave me a $5.00, therefore as I've never seen a name for this trick we ALL DO, I call it the $45.00 Card Trick, and easy as can be.
God Bless, Ed

I always like to do Paul Harris' Las Vegas Leaper (Cards across) because you can do it with or without a table.
It always gets great reactions, and it is very fun to perform. |

I like to do a basic double lift-based trick of some sort. People love thinking they have one card clenched between their hands and actually have another.

Looks like impossible with only 4 of their their cards, looks impossible explained by gimmicked cards but obviously not and is relatively easy with only elmsey count, frustration count, easy dl. |

So many good impromptu card effects! I really like to jazz a bit. If you learn a few good moves, like the pass, double lift, top change, a simple palm, a simple false cut, and a simple shuffle control, you can have a lot of fun with a deck.
I don't think you need to combine all of these, just a couple. If someone hands me a deck, I might use a pass and then "randomly" select three cards that aren't their card and have them pick their own card from the three, involving a top change and magician's choice. Another favorite move is the Mexican turnover. I don't do complicated moves. All of the above are pretty simple. For me, the hardest to learn was the pass, until I saw Jay Sankey teach it in one of his DVDs years ago and it seemed like I learned it in a day. I don't pretend to be a master at any of the moves. I really think that a combination of an adequate move and a bit of misdirection will go a long way. Again, Jay Sankey was a big help here. His pass is adequate at best (his words). However, he does a simple pass combined with a bit of misdirection and it gets the job done. Mark Mason shows a really good little jazzy routine on his Penguin Live lecture. kj |

I saw this guy do a really clever thing - it was a simple DL card change, but he was at a vending machine and pushed the "wrong card" into the slot and when it came out it "changed"! Using the space is most definately fun and really does amp up the magic another notch

I will ask him to name any card, find that card in the deck while bringing 3 other cards (for final 4 of a kind production) on top, than do flourish-cut, classic force with choosing cards, stop force with choosing card, color change, than 4 for a kind production.

Pulse Detection by Ryan Schultz is a great opening card effect with a borrowed deck.
Starts with a lie detector test and ends with the spectator choosing his own card out of four possible face down choices. It's in his book 'Making the Cut'. |
