He still sales it. I have a copy right here.
"Knot Throwing." By Bill Fry. I met Bill at a party last year and he was kind enough to send me a copy. Great stuff. |

Well, there ya go. Rotten is based in FL and is in much better position to put you in touch with Fry. Apparently, he is still selling the book... at least as of last year.

Does that book cover the Will Rogers snap knot? Ros Although there are very many ways to throw a knot it is basically holding on to one end, and whipping a knot at the other end.

Cool.
I honestly thought that was achieved by magical means. Might have to try some of that

Al,
It does not. I'm surprised. It covers so many knots but not that knot. |

It was shown to me by Forrest Hobbs at the 1987 IJA convention, but since Forrest is no longer with us the only plact to learn this incredible trick is on the Dennis Loomis "Knot Routine Plus" DVD, which is a treasure trove of knot tricks.

I have a very large rope magic library, and you are not going to find this knot anywhere in print. The Dennis Loomis "Knot Routine Plus" DVD is the only source for this trick, and I have only seen one video of it done by Will Rogers himself. Dennis is so good at this trick that he does it with one rope in either hand. I really don't think that a book could do this trick justice.

The Will Rogers "snap knot" is demoed, and taught on page 38 of the Summer edition of JUGGLE magazine. They call it the "overhand knot", it is not the same technique that Dennis Loomis taught me, but it is free to any IJA member.

Berglas teaches it on one of the DVD's that are in the new Kaufman book.
Frank Dean teaches a weird way of doing it in Cowboy Fun. If I recall (It's been a while since I've read the book) he swings the rope over head and throws it forward (like a forward flick with a whip) to get the knot. Isaac Louie |

This thread has given me the bug to practice the snap knot. I have been getting it 1 out of 3 times, and I plan to finish my ring and rope routine with it, but I have to be able to hit it every time before I try that.
