I bought a backup IR, just in case Jamie quits making it someday.
It hasn't been used, other than wiping it down with a silicone cloth. I have done the wipe down a couple of times over that past 2 months. Does anyone have an opinion on whether this is neccesary for a unit that isn't in active use? I just don't want to find the need to use the backup a few years down the road and find it rusty. Sammy

Here's the quick routine that has been working well for me. It's pretty similar to what I think a lot of you are doing, but with a few differences:
I pull out only the coin and ask if they would be impressed if I could pass it through solid matter. Of course they say yes, and they usually say they don't believe I can do that. Then I pull out the card box, covering the hole with my thumb. I hold the deck level with the floor and place the coin flat on the box, over the hole. I move my left thumb down so that the coin covers most of the hole and my thumb covers the rest. It looks like I'm just holding the coin on the box with my left thumb. Then, using both thumbs to push down on the coin as if it could pass through the box, I say something like, "I'm going to push this coin through this box of cards." This usually piques their interest, and I then move the card box up so that it is straight in front of me and perpendicular to the floor. I make sure to cover the hole in the box closest to them with the fingers of my left hand. Then I pretend to exert some effort as I turn the coin so that it can pass through the hole and push it through slowly with my right hand. I usually give some suspicious-looking cover to the box, which tends to make them look harder at what I'm doing. I initially did it this way to a friend, intending for it to be a joke, because of course I can pass the coin through the box if there's a hole in it. But what I've found is that when the coin comes through the hole on the side of the spectator, they look dumbfounded for at least a couple seconds. A couple people have even suggested that I must have used two coins. Then they snap back to reality and point out to me that there's a hole in the box. Apparently they don't notice the hole until after the coin has passed all the way through. I tell them that I can tell from their reaction that they are impressed, but that I intend to up the ante by pushing a knife through the hole (or folded up paper money if no knife is nearby). After that point, they feel like they're in on the joke, and the trick is probably over. Then I open the open the box and take a peak inside. As I do this, I tell them that I really have placed something inside the box, and I ask them what they think it is. This also gives me the opportunity to double check that the magic has fully taken effect inside the box. When they guess wrong about what's inside the box, I place it on the table or in their hands and let them dump out the block of steel. It truly blows them away. |

Nice routine and set up!
Sammy, I have meteorites worth some bucks. No worries, just use the cloth or Breakfree every so often. It will be fine. Decomposing into the wee hours

Hey Sammy. Deco is correct. Once you give it a good wipe down with the silicone cloth, Breakfree, WD-40, etc. it should be safe for a good period of time although it certainly wouldn't hurt to pull it out of the box every so often and just take a look at it. Mine is still as pristine looking as the day I got it. Just wish I could say that about myself!

Bout time I clean mine. Got a TV gig on 28 Oct and I plan to use it!
Done TV shows before but back then, DVD recorder was easy to hook up, not anymore! Calling the cable guy and hopefully they will know, if not, I guess it dissolves into cyberspace lol! Plan on mentalism and breakout I Rev for closer. Segments are always about 5 minutes so with short intro, 2 effects usually max! Decomposing into Makeup

Hiya Gang!
Just a quick update to everyone who's purchased an Industrial Revelation after Oct.02: In case you didn't get my e-mail- I've been waiting on steel (since I, once again, purchased all of the available supply here in Vancouver) as it's a specific grade and size. I've been waiting on a train from Chicago which came in a few days ago. But... Now I'm waiting on a special part- and I can in no way explain to you what it is, lol. (sigh) . But I expect to have it this week- and to have everyone's IR done by Monday (6 days away). So a massive THANK YOU for all of your patience. I know how much waiting sucks and believe me when I tell you that I'm dying inside with each passing day that these aren't out the door on the way to your homes. If it makes you feel any better, however, know that the reasons are: 1) I refuse to have these made overseas and only use American steel. 2) I insist on quality controlling these myself and don't want to farm out any of the work. 3) You know, 100%, that these are handmade by the artist (me!) and am thinking about your personal performance when I assemble them. I hope that helps a little bit. And again, thank you so much!!! My best, jamie

Hiya Mike!
Even though I'm a week behind (Gah! It kills me to write that!), I should be back on track, and ahead of the game, by Monday. Meaning that if you order then, I could have it out the door the next day. That said, I obviously send them out in the exact order of them being purchased. Hope that makes sense, lol. After reading about how many card boxes most of us are going thru, I'm going to try and see if lining one with white duct tape will reinforce/extend the life of a card box. I'm also hoping it will aid in sliding action of re-entry/exit of the block. Hoping the thickness will not hinder the fit of the block. Now I just thought about clear packing tape which is thinner - either way I'm sure both will be a pain to negotiate in lining the card case.
Also just for fun, picked up a hacksaw blade to add to the other insertables. So if not obvious, I will cut four strips and line the corners all the way up to the edge of the card box and see how that looks. I'm sure I will go thru a few taping models, or maybe even cut 2 wide strips that would extend and match the side flaps and tape over. Of course this could all look crappy. |

I'm using the Industrial card box - much much heavier paper stock. Mine has been in use for 60 days+ and looks nearly new still.

Rklew64 - The wide, clear packing tape is your best bet.
I line the whole inside before cutting the slots and glueing it back together. Elmer's on the side and bottom make it stronger too. Folks will often want to inspect the box so you don't want to make your work too obvious. Saysold, what is the "Industrial card box"?

Brett, thanks for reminding me that I bought a couple of those decks. I'm going to my cousin's house tomorrow, and her little boy asked that I bring some magic. I think I'll take that box for IR.
It's been about 2 months since I used magic tape on the outside of my normal box. No one has noticed, and the box is still in extremely good condition. It takes about 5 minutes to do this reinforcement, and I think it will last at least 6 months, if not longer. Sammy

It's a match made in heaven. I think Jamie is planning to make the next AIP prize using the Deck One card box for the current Video/Photo contest. Sammy - ya, get yours out man. Why play with tape and stuff when you can just use a heavier better looking box? Makes sense for a metal block to pop out of a box like this... and I get great reactions: Click here to view attached image.
