I was going to ask the same thing. Specifically, will there be any changes this year in terms of format? Or perhaps technology? I'm assuming the EMC will still be iPad-incompatible, but it would be cool if it isn't. Is there anything you are doing differently based on feedback from last year?

Last year’s EMC set up a couple of challenges for us. The big one being how do you top such an incredible line-up? Not even the traditional FISM conventions usually offer 33 top names on their line-ups. We did that on EMC2010. Everyone was special and everyone gave their very best to make members feel something special and unique.
Well, we’ll do it again this year. Everyone checking our Speakers list can only be overwhelmed with the names there. And again every member will be able to make comments, ask questions and interact with our Speakers as they watch the presentations. They can also submit questions for our Q&A sessions and take part in our instant online polls During any conventional convention you take notes, pictures and above all you store it in your mind. At EMC we get it 100% sent to your home anywhere in the world free of charge… a complete set of DVDs, the retail price of the DVDs is worth almost twice the registration cost of the conference. But there are other things we want to improve. We’ve upgrade our infrastructure to make it work in all browsers. It work nicer in Safari and Chrome. That way you get the most out of our web designer’s beautiful work. But the site is fully functional (even chat) on all browsers even older versions of Internet Explorer. Having said that obviously you’ll get the best out of any web browsing experience if you update your software. The other thing we want to make a better is time taken to make everything available on demand. Each live session needs to be encoded, tested and uploaded. We’ve made significant changes to the process this year and we are ready to upload all sessions on the same day they finish. So if you missed one day’s live session you can view it the next day on demand. Finally there is another commitment we’ve made. The DVDs won’t take ten months to be released! We’ve committed to have them out by October 2011. Also, there is something that I’m not allowed to talk about yet… we might be able to have the conference working on iPad… not confirmed… so please don’t tell anyone… The only thing I can say is that will be an amazing conference! Don’t miss it! Visit us at http://www.essentialmagicconference.com/conference |

I think I covered a lot of that in my previous answer (including the iPad question) but maybe I can add something about the topics we are covering. In that respect we are tackling some aspects of magic that weren’t covered last year. For example manipulation and magic for children. We have lots of close up and card magic including the previously mentioned Dani DaOrtiz. But we also have some of the top stage and television magicians including Paul Daniels, David Berglas and Lu Chen. If you have questions, we have the people who can answer them.
Also this year we are trying something very different. David Copperfield will be conducting a live virtual tour of his museum in Las Vegas. He’ll also be answering questions from our members. It’s a great opportunity to learn from a real legend in magic. It’s the kind of event that shows just how versatile the internet can be when organising an online conference, bringing people together in new and interesting ways. Please check the Speakers list here... http://www.essentialmagicconference.com/videos/88 |

Thanks for the reply, Luis. I will keep my fingers crossed on the iPad.
Glad to hear you are committing to faster uploading and DVD delivery. If I can throw in my two cents -- one thing I liked a lot last year was the demo of a trick as part of the event ("Res-Cue") and then the explanation outside of it, where Max could go over it a bit more carefully and with less time constraints. I hope you do more of that this year. Also, would love to see more bonus material on the DVDs, even if it's just backstage type video of some of the participants sessioning, etc. In general, though, I'm really looking forward to it. Registered a couple of weeks ago. |

Dear Luis,
Not complaining, it just last year's EMC the internet connection made most of the time I cannot watch the confernce LIVE. I sincerely hope that this year this can be improve by STUDIO33. Another thing is that I hope that guest speaker of EMC can have some short cuts to reply answers for questions that keep popping up the screen while they are answering other people's questions. Such as 'Your questions will be answer in a moment / please wait while the guest presenter is answering someone's questions.' Just a button on the screen will help a lot I think. I already registered for EMC2011 and looking forward another successful year to Luis! Regards,

On this year’s Essential Magic Conference Max Maven will do the same, performing a trick and a detailed video of the explanation will be on the website later. It was popular last year and I think we will probably keep doing things like this. And, yes, will have plenty of backstage footage this time.
Last year we had many backstage videos but there was no space in the DVDs to include. Remember that we also included all the “Passion for Magic” videos and those are great but took up a bit of space on the discs. I’ll keep your post in mind and make sure we record stuff to later include on the DVDs boxed set. Thanks for registering. We won’t disappoint you! |

It might sound as an excuse on my side, and I assure you it isn’t, but any broken connection is likely to be a local problem. Everyone in the studio is watching the same feed. We’d notice if it broke.
I’m not saying that the internet could not have broke at our point. I’m just saying that it didn’t. We have double dedicated upload fiber optics connections that is constantly protected and monitored by Portugal’s biggest internet provider. Again, it could have happened. The internet is not immune from breakages any more than your electricity connection or water supply. But it didn’t happen during the last EMC. It might be a bit late to incorporate your suggested button but it’s definitely a great idea. Thanks a lot for that. Thank you so much for registering. We produce EMC for the community and nothing is more rewarding that having the community take part and enjoying every bit of EMC. As you experienced last year, it’s a unique opportunity for all of us to be together worldwide. Please keep supporting us and spread the word! |

Enjoyed it last year and very much looking forward to it again. Thanks very much - this whole process of an online convention has raised the bar. I would love to have gone to something like magic con but live too far away. I feel EMC is just as ground breaking and fantastic. Everyone should register for this. Looking forward to seeing more Dani DaOrtiz. Thanks for setting this up with Marco and David.
Best wishes John

I think some backstage session material with the card guys maybe tipping a few items would be a nice addition Luis? Be nice to have some informal footage as well as the main presentations.
All the best John http://www.johncareymagic.co.uk |

EMC was created thinking exactly that. I remember wanting to go to a convention but not having the money or the time. Nowadays we can all be together! Since EMC is a totally non-profit, I’m perfectly OK agreeing with you that EVERYONE should register for this. If people don’t support it and see the true inner value EMC will not be able stay alive. If someone is reading this and have no idea what EMC is let me explain it very clearly…
The Essential Magic Conference (the world’s first digital conference for magicians) will take place on the 7th, 8th, 9th of July. 3 days of incredible online lectures and performances from 33 of the world’s finest magicians broadcast to you in high quality video. Registering for the conference includes: Access to the lectures as they are broadcast live on the internet. Access to the lectures as video on-demand following the broadcast. A complete set of DVDs (retail price 150 US$) mailed to you and containing video of all the lectures and bonus materials generated by the conference. Ability to participate in the conference by creating your own Member Page on the EMC website. Ability to join in Question and Answer sessions and online interviews with our speakers. Access to our unique chat facility that enables you to comment and talk throughout the conference with other members and our Speakers. The registration for EMC 2011 costs $90/ €70. Yes, I believe it would be very hard to find justifications not to register… If you have a minute see this video… http://www.essentialmagicconference.com/conference If you want to know who the Speakers will be see this video… http://www.essentialmagicconference.com/videos/88 If you want to get an idea of last year’s EMC see this video… http://www.essentialmagicconference.com/videos/71 If you want to read the EMC2010 review download it here… https://www.yousendit.com/download/UnlBblFLbEpGOFEwTVE9PQ If you want to register follow this link… http://www.essentialmagicconference.com/users/new I’ll pass your words of appreciation to Marco and David! Very happy you enjoyed EMC2010! See you at EMC2011! |

Luis,
Thank you for putting such a great experience together again this year. The best thing that happened regarding EMC 2010 for me was connecting with a fellow magician who invited me over to watch a part of the conference with him. It was great, but sitting there with a fellow magician watching and then digesting the material together was great. I am signing up again this year and your list of speakers is amazing. Thank you so much for bringing such a great group of speakers together... Not being lose to a major magiccity, I would NEVER get to see all of this amazing talent at one time. Bravo! Michael |

I also want to just say a huge thank you to Luis and all of the EMC team for putting on this fantastic experience. Last year's EMC was the first magic conference I had ever "attended" and it was mind-blowing. The amount of great advice, theory, and ideas that were presented was simply amazing. And you can't beat the wonderful price. People like you (Luis) are really going to have a great legacy of improving magic and advancing magic for the new generation. I can't wait until July 7th!
BTW, when will the schedule for this year's EMC be available online? |

One more thing: I noticed the new "members" category on the site. It would be cool if you could sort by location so as to find out who from your town was watching.

Michael,
Thank you for your kind words. That’s exactly the big Essential Magic Conference goal... create a place where we all meet up with all our great inspirations. We are very happy that fellow magicians get together and share this unique experience. Please send in feedback during the conference. Send pictures, send comments and questions. If you happen to develop something during EMC that was triggered by some talk or performance, please send us a video… let’s learn, share and collaborate in a truly global scale. See you there… |

That’s a nice suggestion. Thanks for that.
In the meantime, I suggest that once you arrive on the chat you just give us all a shout out saying where are you participating from. Everybody will know you are in. See you there… |
