Craig and Dave demo'd the most basic method. Had he used one of the more advanced versions in the directions NO SYMBOLS would have been called out.
Also if he had used another ploy in the directions, it could have been done with two calls and the third wouldn't be needed. The original method is good and works but more advanced methods are explained in the directions. Thanks for the good review guys. Devin |

I'd like to play the devils advocate on "A New World". I completely understand the reasoning that goes "Why use a gimmicked deck when the laymen will be just as fooled by a good routine with a normal deck." But there is an aspect of this deck that the guys didn't mention.
One half of the cards ARE perfectly normal. The instructions include several routines that would utilize these cards. With a little thought you could compose a special "set" that you do with this deck only. The set might be designed to let the spectators handle the cards. It might use a trick that requires a small group of stacked cards. So in one pocket you have your regular deck. In the other you have the A New World deck which is not only gimmicked for that trick but also stacked for several others. Also, remember, when performing for laymen it would not be unusual at all to have someone in the group who new "Out of This World". I've seen it taught in beginner card books. I think given the cleaness of the handling AND the ability to use the deck for other tricks it is a very strong deck to consider. |

How many people actually perform out of this world now? I would contend that the effect itself, which requires a table and dealing through a pack (or half a pack) of cards is for a "pipe and slippers" moment. If WPR put David Regal's Red Streamlined Convertible in this category shouldn't OFTW be in it as well? If you already perform OFTW often, consider buying this, if not, this one will probably end up at the bottom of your close up case waiting for a "special moment" that may never come.

First episode where I disagree with pretty much everything.
Tool: Suspicious and obvious. Do you even need such an expensive gimmick for the ace production that was showed? Simply put the aces under the cardbox and load them when you put the box on the deck. The color change looks nice, but I don't think that in a conventional color change most laymen will remember that the magician briefly covered the whole top cards (in contrast to Tool, where only a part of the top card is covered). So this is only a small improvement and not worth it. |

The book of magic bollox is certainly on my to-buy list, theres some excerpts here: http://www.magicbollocks.com/the-book.html
Thought about doing a pre-order bonus DVD? You two and the author in a pub drinking beer and talking magic bollox for an hour? |

I thought that they didn't give New World a proper review. Half the deck is normal and can be set up using half the Aronson stack and it's a one way deck. You can actually just carry the New World deck with you and use just that deck. You can perform a good amount of normal card material with the deck and end the set with the cleanest hands off OOTW routine possible. It's Worker of the Week material.

I can’t really remember the last time I performed an OOTW effect albeit I believe it was the one by Harry Lorayne called “Out of this Universe” from his book ”Close Up Card Magic” © 1962. I was never all that crazy about it although it did receive some good reactions.
Actually, when it comes to a card trick where the spectator does the work I now much prefer using “McDobson’s Aces” by Wayne Dobson from his booklet “Look No Hands”. It’s obviously, by the title, not an OOTW trick, but it really plays well and will leave the spectator speechless as they have no idea how they were able to actually be the “performer” of such a strong magical effect. I covered this a little before on another thread, but I don’t perform it as done in the book as I personally feel the first half of the trick is superfluous and simply a waste and I do it as Craig performed it on one of the WPR’s when he and David reviewed it. This trick alone is well worth the price of the booklet.

It was a legitimate question. all those superstars of mentalism used or still use cards and have become very successful.
James ps I love your use of the old "Oh this place is not as good as it used to be" LOL! You should have thrown in another good one "You are the reason the pros have stopped coming to the Café." I always like that one. Quote: On 2011-07-20 10:44, Shrubsole wrote:

Alright, I purchased Tool, love Tool, but frickin' hate the DVD. OMG, I have never, ever, been so frustrated with a DVD. The product is top notch yet the DVD makes me want to punt this thing right through a window.
There is absolutely NO REASON why producers can't make an easy-to-navigate DVD in these "modern" times. NONE. This is the digital age and all of the tools are accessible to all of us at anytime of day anywhere!!! Wow. This thing actually made me take the Lord's name in vain and curse my TV screen. It's horrible. There is NO excuse for this immature, amateur, and LAZY abomination. F' this DVD. I spit on it. It made me physically ill. It is everything bad about our digital age. And, what a shame, since this is a really good effect.

Sounds like Frisbee time!
Those DVD’s can really fly. I remember tossing the DVD of “Ghost Ink” by Andrew Mayne out of my office window the same day I got it! There was nothing wrong with the DVD itself, but trick had to be the most god awful thing I ever had the misfortune of purchasing. Give it a toss....it might make you feel better! By the way, I’m still waiting for Tool so at least I now know what to expect and I’ve never been known to have much patience. Maybe I had better pop a Valium before I watch it! YIKES!

Thanks for the good idea Gaffed. I'm currently using as a coaster, but the frisbee idea sounds good. Now, if I can find a neighborhood dog to catch it, I think I may get my money's worth.

Yes, it won't play all the way through. Keeps going back to the main menu. BUT the magic is very good.
