Ok I don't know much about mentalisim but there I one effect that I see Mentalists/magicians perform that I need to learn. Is were they "guess" every single time which hand a spectator hides in there hand.
I know the effect were you hold the coin up to the head (pm if you don't know what I mean), but ive seen it done without this method. (seen Dynamo pefrom this) where can I buy this effect? |

Proximity by ProMystic. I like to include a "kicker" ending to this type of effect - like going straight into a serial number reveal...

Either sixth sense , or I've seen colin mcleod do a similar effect on his opening minds dvd ,where he does go into a serial number divination.

Not to be "that guy" but I wonder--why do you "need" to learn this? if it is because the effect of knowing the unknown is so strong, there are much stronger effects IMO

Then I would encourage you to examine mentalism as a whole--watch as many performances as you can find online or in real life--and decide how you feel about mentalism as a whole. don't get hung up on the individual effects just yet. as many people here will tell you (in less than pleasant ways) it is not enough to sprinkle one or two mental effects into a magic routine. in those cases it is rarely "like real magic" as you say.

In the end, it is usually better for you to start at the beginning, as I said in my post above. |

Lots of users in this forum like to flex thier knowledge muscles whilst others prefer to protect the "secrets " . Its a little like earning your stripes before disclosure for the latter . Im not arguing the case for either ,even though I fall into the latter myself . Im also tired but you deserved an explanation .

Really?? It is not ok to answer somebody's question? Ok, didn't know that. I'll be sure to selfishly keep all knowledge to myself from now on and be as unhelpful as possible. Seriously, why not point somebody (with over 400 posts) in the right direction? I would hope for the same courtesy myself when I ask a pretty simple question. Nobody is revealing secrets or methods in this scenario, just trying to be helpful. I don't think anyone is trying to "show off their knowledge" either. I'm not trying to be argumentative here, I really would like to hear more thoughts on this issue.

I saw recently a GREAT painting in a museum, something like Mono Liso. How I can learn that?
As absurd as my post is, is the same thing. Effects perse arent powerful Owen. Is the performer who can creates miracles with apparent trivial things. Learn the basics of mentalism to comprehend the thoughts that you received here. Performance isn't just do something, rather express yourself in that something.

People don't always understand that in mentalism just like in XCM and probably any other type of magic you need to start with the basics. And to get beyond the basics you need to practice and study. This could be a very helpful answer for someone if he's at least a little bit understanding. It's no use to give a rude answer to try to steer people away from this forum. But I understand people who do, because these types of questions seem to come up more and more and it can be frustrating to say the same thing over and over. And Owen, for the basics, take a look at Bob Cassidy's 39 steps. Use the search function and thou shall find.

...or you could just guess and save yourself the trouble of a routine, if that is what you want to do, afterall 50/50, right?
Psychic Escape
Man has an invincible inclination to allow himself to be deceived and is, as it were, enchanted with happiness when the rhapsodist tells him epic fables as if they were true, or when the actor in the theater acts more royally than any real king. So long as it is able to deceive without injuring, that master of deception, the intellect, is free; it is released from its former slavery and celebrates its Saturnalia. It is never more luxuriant, richer, prouder, more clever and more daring. - Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche |
