Can you guys take a look at this and tell me what you think. Its a little grainy and to a magician the loads are obvious on video but I am getting 6 final loads in front of about 50 people. I want you to be honest though I'm always trying to improve this, as the cups and balls are my signature effect.

The link does not work for me.
Just to be up front on what I read though - 6 final loads is over-doing it... |

Goodmorning Adam,
Nice of you to open up, a good way to learn. I think it was great, good technique, good misdirection, good talking during the routine. Things to consider, your bending getting the final load in is for me a little strange. I never see you bending like this in the whole routine, bending out of nowhere is for me a strange thing to see. Another suggestion is to analyze the numbers of your final load and the reaction you got from the audience. Where are the big reactions, the first in the reveal of the first potato, second is expecting, the lime also did a reaction because it is a different object. The finally dropping above the table the last one is in my opinion one of the biggest finally and the reaction there isn't that strong as it supposed to be. My guess is they have been overloaded with the numbers of final load. You got all the credits for bringing up six final loads for the audience but maybe you must consider it is to much. The magic is knowing where to stop. Overall thank you very much for sharing , I enjoyed it very much. Very real and clear, nice costume and nice cups (he I am still a magician best, Ronald |

Good job. I normally get bored quickly watching cups and balls videos. But not this time.
Thanks for posting it.
After much soul searching about a signature, I decided not to have one.

Awesome. Although, I would drop two of the cup final loads, and go for a big hat final load, with a grand, sweeping gesture, maybe?
That said, the audience seemed to be loving it. Great job! |

I really like it. I would not remove any loads from the routine. As your closer, this is a great example of beating them up with magic. Here's this unexpected potato, then another one, then more stuff, and dropping the final one is just lovely.
Keep it like it is. There is a little room to tighten up the patter, but I don't think you really need to. You seem to be a magician who talks with his audience a fair bit, and that's not a bad thing, so long as you are not boring them to tears or anything like that. My feeling is that if I can script a routine that's as good as that one, I'll be very happy with it. By the way, what's the venue? In your Colonial getup, I am assuming some sort of living history setting, but you might well normally perform that way. I'm just curious. -Patrick |

Patrick- Adam is the resident Colonial Magician for Colonial Williamsburg- specifically at Chowning's Tavern on historic Duke of Gloucester Street. In this particular video I believe he was performing for one of Colonial Williamsburg's vacation resorts in a parlor setting. Most nights of the week he can be found in the dining rooms of the period taverns entertaining guests with magic and gambling they would have seen in the pre-Revolutionary war period when Williamsburg was the Nation's Capitol and a bustling colonial hub of politics. I used to be the chef at the King's Arm Tavern up the street!
Being a fellow magician myself have always thought Adam's magic to be entertaining and tasteful- considering the restraints of the setting and historical accuracy. I have seen this routine develop over the years he has been there and can say that in its current form is quite exceptional. I have seen him kill audiences with his routine consistently. It is a solid working routine. Personally, for my tastes and style I think the number loads could be reduced, but then again sometimes I see the reactions and think differently, so it's a hard decision for me. The drop from the cup was one of those great moments of discovery for him that really "made" his final load sequence. I think it's a great routine and it's always great to see the cups alive and well. Jonathan Brown Posted: Sep 10, 2011 3:25am End of shameless plug....just kidding! |

Thank you, Jonathan for the context.
I've never been to the East Coast, but if I manage to get there one day, Collonial Williamsburg is certainly on my very short list of things I want to do. Personally, I have three loads, one from each cup. Doing six from two cups would not work for me, but I think it really works well in this routine. I'd love to see the rest of the act! -Patrick |

This is a great routine.
Quick pace with no idle moments ,clear, funny, magical and the audience loved it. The different multiple loads were good. In this case more is better. Chappelly |

Great costume. The six final loads all worked very well.
The only thing I might suggest is thinking about reducing the length of the talking after you have made the balls disappear from your hand and before making them reappear under both the cups. But it all looked good and it was nice to see a good two cup routine. I enjoyed it. |

Nice finish! I loved the period dress as well..you are representing our craft very well my friend!
Cheers! There's no reason to change anything unless you wanted to add the old third cup eh? |

I am disappointed that I cannot view the routine. I keep getting this notice: "The action that you were trying to perform has failed."
Any body have any info that might help me? Terry

I loved it! I have various period magic shows myself from different historical periods, and I liked your costume as well. There are not a lot of two cup routines that one sees being performed these days, and yours was a great interpretation. I could see many different published chop cup and three cup routines that would/might have inspired your take on them. The best part is that you made it your own and fit it to your style. Job well done Sir!

I really liked your routine, Adam. I (for one) didn't mind the 6 finals at all! And (as stated above), the audience was having a good time. Well done. . .
