I thought I will post this here seeing that it has got to do about mentalism.
I can see "Mind Eraser" by Joe Brogie to be a very good addition to my arsenal of mentalism effects and it is something that I really want to perform, but it is rather pricy. I read about an effect by Luke Jermay called "RGM (Reverse Gestalt Moment) which seems to basically achieve a similar result as "Mind Eraser." I noticed that RGM is in Luke Jermay's "7 Deceptions" book and based of some reviews I read on his "Skullduggery" DVD, this effect is supposed to be on this DVD. However, when looking at the description of the contents of all the effects on this DVD, it does not appear to be there. So firstly, is this effect on the DVD maybe under a different name? Secondly, does RGM really achieve the same astonishments as Mind Eraser? Then lastly, is Mind Eraser really worth all that money and how easy is it easy to do? Thanks, WV

Speaks a lot of Mind Eraser, but not on RGM. Is it on Luke's DVD? Because if I look at the index of the DVD on magic shop sites it does not state anywhere that it contains RGM, yet reviews states otherwise.

RGM is on the Skullduggery DVD. It's the first item listed on the back of the case (I've just checked).

Thanks. Strange it does not show this on PenguinMagic's website? Oh well. Good to know it is on there. Is it easy to learn and does it always work?

I do not own Mind Eraser but to me it looks like a total "fail". I have read reviews and many seem to say that it is very badly produced.
Also this to me does not seem to be much different than a standard hypnotic suggestion. RGM on the other hand is genius. The big advantage to Mind Eraser is that first of all Luke goes into much detail and explains everything very thouroughly. Secondly if the suggestion does fail, there is an out. |

Awesome! Plus there is a lot more material on Luke's DVD at a lower cost than Mind Eraser. I guess I have a made up mind.

Heck get sankey version then - I use it all the time from closeup to stage and avoid the playing card requirement of rgm
Stone me if you will but sankey does have some great things for this

Are you referring to "Memory Lapse" on Jay Sankey's "22 Blows To the Head"?
Can anyone point to me to some video performances of either or both "Memory Lapse" and "RGM"?

I have a number of these memory lapse effects including Luke's and Mind Eraser, as well as Cerebral Steal by James Brown. It's really like comparing oranges to apples.
Luke's method in Skullduggery and 7 Deceptions is quite good and was one of the pioneering versions of the routine (at least in it's use in magic). If it was between comparing RGM and what comes directly with Mind Eraser, then I would say go with RGM all the way, plus you get a number of other truly stunning effects. I found that Mind Eraser had a lot of talking related to waking hypnosis and suggestibility tests, etc., but very little of the actual method. The place where I feel Mind Eraser really shines is the fact that it has it's own private Facebook group where you can ask any questions, or read a number of scripts designed for it. This ability to get instant support from a literally thriving community is quite useful, but if you just wanted to purchase it for the effect, I would still go RGM. Something else to consider, is Cerebral Steal by James Brown. You can get this off of magicshop.co.uk for about 5 quid. I must say it provides the closest means to mind reading I have ever seen. In fact, I think you very well could call it true mind reading, especially if you are able to catch a subtlety after watching the tutorial/trailer, which will allow your spectator to think of literally any word, which you can have predicted, or which you can name immediately. In terms of a memory loss effect it goes to great lengths to describe every stage of the "forgetting" process and why they work. Again, it's like oranges and apples (and bananas ), but if I had to purchase one I would go with Cerebral Steal, simply because it not only has an amnesia effect but it follows that with an even stronger "name anything" reveal.

In my eBook and booklet "5 Miracles with 5 ESP Cards" , I have my approach to this premise with ESP symbols.
Works very well and even when the psychological aspect of the performance doesn't work well, the out is well motivated

I was in San Diego with Joe Brogie of Mind eraser fame recently. He is one busy stage hypnotist and also mixes this up with mentalism very nicely.
I have seen him perform Mind Eraser several times and always get results, he has ways forward if the true amnesia fails. Personally I think having the mind set and intent of a hypnotist helps, the timing and jazz style of a mentalist prepared to take a risk does too. Many of those who try Mind Eraser have neither and behave like the words are going to do the magic - they won't. RGM is sweet too but Cerebral Steal takes it to another level. James Brown, the Professional Opportunist, deserves some serious credit for this wonderful routine. To me it is one of the best effects I have ever come across in mentalism. The word reveal is astonishing to an audience and the participant! I am amazed it is sold for a few pounds. Anthony

As I wrote above, I heartily agree with your assessment of Cerebral Steal. It's true mind reading.

You write a word down, screw it up and give it to the participant to hold. You ask them to name any word at all. Your prediction is correct. They are amazed.
Fairly straightforward prediction plot Iain. What is it you are not getting, I am intrigued? Anthony

Jame's routine, to me, is one of the greatest mentalism sequences with cards ever created. It is simple, direct and there is an out if the amnesia doesn't take that honestly does still really freak people out...the Professional Oppertunist is a set filled with absolute gold
