I have not had the chance to pop the DVD into the computer, but are the marked ESP cards included in the DVD (Though I'm not sure how that would work), or is there a place I can purchase it?
Thanks |

Another GREAT review of SPEAKEASY this one comes from Olie Mealing at the magic review blog
Wow, Dan Harlan's 'SpeakEasy' is awesome - turbo fast to understand and killer in concert! Harlan's latest release featuring the ever wonderful Jen Weston (no I'm not flirting..) should also be called Watch & Learn Easy! The style and layout of this DVD is just butter smooth, entertaining, crammed with performances (the efforts here should be awarded) & explanations are crystal clear. The system taught explains how to secretly communicate names, numbers, symbols, colours & even dates! And to give you even more bang for buck, Harlan also tips his treasured stage set (performance included) which purely uses the system. The act has been developed over the course of years & for the first time, all neatly wrapped up is the whole shebang, you get the methodology, presentation, patter, subleties, EVERYTHING! Myself and a secret sidekick learnt the basic techniques alongside the running time of the DVD, it's that simple/genius. Sure there's some further rehearsal before going live, but if your already experienced with pattering on the spot then this is almost effortless! Major pro, the 'SpeakEasy' system is brilliantly devised in such a way that you & your 'psychic' partner can create limitless presentations - you are restricted only by your imagination. Small con.. some of the live performance audio is hit'n'miss so make sure your sat with the zapper, but please don't let that put you off, you WILL be inspired by this. To conclude, the sneakiness of this system makes it a thrill to perform & you'll have fun learning too - why couldn't they teach stuff like this in school! Highly recommended. I believe that has been answered. Yes it does work in other languages.

It is true that has been created for English. This means that it can be necessary to adapt the communication system for another language. This is what I did using Swedish.
I could have stayed with the English version, but that would have been a bit awkward and not so natural. You have to find out what kind of sentences and words that comes natural to you in the performance situation and adapt the code. I would say that this is not a negative. With some work you will be able to find out and work through something that is even better than the original. It is much better to do this work even if you language is English and you stay with the English version. Every sentence you find that comes natural to you and your way of expressing yourself will make the system stronger.

So nice to win "Worker of the Week" and get a glowing review from Ollie! Happy 2012! Regarding other languages, as I've said before, SpeakEasy was developed in English, but designed to be very flexible. I've had many owners from many countries report great success in adapting the system to their native language. As Stellan mentioned, even English speakers will adapt the standard code to their own speaking patterns without very much effort at all.
Also, remember that once you learn the system, email me and CODE the number 42 using the SpeakEasy system and I will send you the bonus Silent Version FREE! danharlanmagic@yahoo.com --Dan Harlan |

Is the principle similar to the one described in Dean Montalbano's book "Cipher Speak: A Two Person Code Act" or completely different ? Just to know if my purchase will be redundant...

We reviewed Speak Easy last night on the Magic Marketplace. With a product costing $100 we really wanted to make sure to cover the details and if this is worth the money to you. http://youtu.be/ei_BS0ZqI9U
Our overall thoughts are that things a two person coding system are invaluable and can take your performances to the next level. |

Just picked this up and reviewed last night. Echo what has already been said... great concept...well taught... solid production... entertaining to watch. I loved the "gritty" feel in the country fair sections. Overall my Speak Easy rating in "Speak Easy" is...

I'm late (VERY late!) to this thread, but hopefully better late than never. Having sworn off coding systems since trying without success to master 'The Colostro Code' a few decades ago, I was leery of trying 'SpeakEasy'. Suffice it to say, I WILL be using this. Sooo easy to learn, and the possibilities for expanding the basic system to accomplish genuine miracles are endless. Thanks, Dan!

I am way late to this party, but, I have arrived, and let me say this, I absolutely love SpeakEasy.
My wife and I worked on a two-person code a few years ago. If it wasn't the Zancig Code, it was probably based on it. A lot of layers, and I ended up tweaking it and adding to it to make it even more complex. We only performed the act once. SpeakEasy is incredibly easy to learn, amazingly deceptive in performance and absolutely stunning in reactions. My wife watched part of the video, and when we headed out to have dinner with her parents, she said, "We should try this out tonight." We told the waitress we wanted to try something out, lined up a bunch of items on the table, she pointed to one, and my wife told her what she picked. We did the same thing to her mom, her father and I even got in on the choosing. One of the downsides with the two-person code act we performed had to do with outdated sentence structures. SpeakEasy eliminates all of that. My wife was impressed with how natural Dan did in sending thoughts to Jen. That is why I decided I, too, would point to an object. I pointed to the same thing my father-in-law selected. In the other code, the sending of thoughts would have sounded very familiar. However, I wanted to demonstrate to my in-laws, without overtly drawing attention to the fact, the words I spoke after my selection and after my father-in-law's selection were very different, yet Wendi was able to pick up both thoughts. The reason I was so late to this party was, frankly, I did not want to spend the money. However, I had a run of shows lately that has far outpaced my normal performance schedule that have bought things that I do not really need with the extra earnings. Let me take a slight detour here. To me, price matters. Some people justify high prices by saying, "Well, you can make the money back with one show." That is true, performers can. However, if you are a full-time performer (I am), you still have to pay your bills. You still do not have an endless number of gigs. It still comes back to whether there is enough disposable cash after bills. OK, I'll get off my soapbox now. I approach magic and mentalism as a professional, I read, study, practice, rehearse, attend lectures, get with other magicians, etc., but I still only perform part-time. With the influx in shows, I have had a lot of extra money to spend on stuff, so I splurged and purchased SpeakEasy. I was not disappointed one bit. What I like about SpeakEasy is the underlying system can be tweaked, expanded and adapted to suit your needs. After watching the DVD once and doing some practice, my wife and I can probably perform the show Dan and Jen did. Right out of the box, you have ideas for a nice, entertaining show. However, once you get the basics down, you can start adding other things. You can apply the system to a cadre of categories that are appropriate for your characters, performing styles and venues. So, you can start out with a powerful show and just continue to build and build and build until you have a more detailed system that rivals the Zancigs. Those of you who have SpeakEasy will probably agree with this next point, and those who are contemplating purchasing this DVD will be glad for it: After learning the basic system, perhaps the most useful thing is watching Dan and Jen perform at the fair. Why this is good is it will help you think of ways in which you can apply this (you talk about packing flat and playing big, there is nothing to carry!!), but some of the people at he fair really give Dan a hard time, and in so doing, Dan essentially gives us a master lesson in how to overcome obstacles. Dan calls this SpeakEasy for a reason, it is a spoken code. How in the world can he signal to Jen what she needs to know when someone tells him point blank: Don't say anything. I am not going to tell you how Dan gets around this, it's not like it's a big deal or anything, but I will say this was before he put together a silent code, and he was still able to accomplish what he needed to after being told not to say a word. Another time, someone in the crowd said he (or she, can't remember), didn't want Dan to see how many fingers she was holding up. What would you do in that situation? Again, Dan was able to signal Jen and at the same time satisfy the person's demand. Incredible. Dan, I am glad I finally got off of the fence and picked up SpeakEasy. Can't wait 'til our paths cross again. Tell Jen and Pretty Boy Floyd I said hello. Bobby

Ooops. I should have said above I am *not* a full-time performer. However, I decided years ago my magic habit would have to support my habit. So, I only use money I make in performing to buy new effects. No longer does the money come from our household income.
